A new child started in my class and his name is Fraser. Pronounced Frazer like razor according to mom. Why? Or couldn't she have just spelled it Frazer so we wouldn't be so confused?

Since Fraser is a common name and not some special snowflake kreative spelling I don't see the big deal. Now if it was spelled Frayzier that would be confusing LOL

Hmm, Frazer like Razor, not fray-jer? (the j there sounding like the z in azure or the s in pleasure). I've never heard that name pronounced like that before either. I would also have pronounced it fray-jer or fray-sir, not fray-zer. Oh well. Chalk that one up to weird.

I live in Vancouver, where the Fraser River is nearby. It's definitely pronounced Frazer. Or /ˈfreɪzər/ if you know IPA.

I am sorry I didn't mean to come off harsh. Maybe I misunderstood the situation.

I think Fraser is always pronounced like Frazer, with a buzzing s sound. It doesn't have an i between the s and the e, so it wouldn't be pronounced Frasier.
