[identity profile] sarahrose.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Today, I came across a couple of names that belong to cousins. The 3-year old is Chloeigh and the newborn is Maddilynn, nicknamed immediately as "Maddy."

Ugh ugh ugh. Chloeigh has got to be one of the worst bastardizations I have ever seen. That is a permanent curse upon that child's life. And Madeleine/Madeline is ruined by that superfluous spelling. And "Maddy" is just so common/blah.

I have seen so many -eigh names lately. I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone, but what is with that?!?!? 'Leigh' itself is just about the only one I can think of that's legitimate, so to speak.

Anyway, just had to share.

Wtf is ... Never mind, I can't see the post while commenting and failed three times at replicating that name.

Chloeigh looks like a phonetic representation of someone hacking a loogie.

The worst part is that it's already got C-H-L-O-E there, why add on I-G-H? That just makes it seem like it's pronouncing "clo-ee-eye"

At least Chloeigh can take the 'igh' off and have a correctly spelt name when she realises. I just don't understand why people spell names wrong; it doesn't make a popular/common name unique, it makes it a mess.

I don't have a problem with the -eigh in and of itself; it's legitimately derived from old english if I remember rightly. But Chloe already has the sound, so adding igh to it makes me cringe!

I find it difficult to even look at those names. Eurgh. Talk about unnecessarily changing a spelling to make it more difficult.
