How do you feel about the name Anders? My husband and I are really growing fond of it. I feel like it's one of those names you really have to own, and when you do, you can totally rock it from a toddler to an old man.

Am I being blinded by my hormones?

I'm a bit torn. Personally, I really like the name. And I know two Anders my age, and one about three or four. He has a twin sister named Ingrid, which I always thought was a cute pair.

However, there is the issue of Anders Breivik, which is what I immediately associate with the name, and I'd bet a lot of other people do too. I wouldn't want to name my baby after a racist mass murderer, but it is possible he will fade from history eventually? Sort of? Still, it is kind of a morbid name now.

world history? He'll probably fade. Norwegian history not so much. But in a way, a name is just a name. There's been babies named Anders in Norway in the last year and we won't really know until next year when the name statistics are released if it's had a major impact or not, name-wise.

If it's common over there, that's hardly going to change because of one guy. Like, if there was a mass-murderer called John whatever in the US, it's not going to affect the name popularity that much, there's too many associations for one to keep standing out. Adolf = unusable; Joseph=unaffected. Really just depends on how common the name is.

Yeah that's what I think too. I heard that in the following months of 2011, only 9 boys got Anders as a name, but that could be completely normal because Norway's a small country and names fluctuate.
