What is the most ~creative/unique~ spelling you have seen... of your own name or your kid(s) name(s)? Not necessarily a pretty or nice spelling, mind you lol, just something that made you go, "but... why?"

For me: I'm Jennifer. I have personally seen: Jenapher, Jennefer, Genifer and Jennafer. I also have seen it shortened to: Jenne (prn "Jen/Jenn"), Jenney, and Genny. Which leads me to: there is really no way to *spice up* Jennifer, it is what it is haha.

My son is Ryan. Last year in his class he had Reyane(*my bad, I misspelled it the first time, had to double check his class picture from last year) that was said like "Ryan." That just made me go "huh?" You can't just change the sound of letters or make them randomly silent... I mean, you can... but in this case, your child is likely being called "Ray-Ann" when their name is read.

Rayane is an Arabic name pronounced Ryan- perfectly legitimate.

My name is Rebecca. I've seen Rebeka, Rebekah, Rebbecca, Rebbeka, all sorts of combos with k's and h's. Its a Bibical name and nearly all legimate.

My name is Rebecca. The craziest spelling I've seen is Rabecah. (seriously, what is that?)

I'm a Teaching Assistant in Kindergarten and and we have some cr8tive spelled names including Rubie and also Kyran (pronounced Kieran.)

I'm a Rebecca too (aka Becky). A few weeks back I remember a post in this comm. that had a Ribbekkah or something close to that horrid spelling.

My name is Hali (pronounced Hail-ee) and I've seen a Hailea (in this community, actually) and a Hailie. Those are probably the worst.

I've seen every variation known to man: Haley, Hailey, Hayly, Hayley, Haylee, Hayleigh, Haylie, and Haly.

My name is Kailee. I've seen Caylee, Kaylee, K'leigh, Kali, Kayleigh and on and on and on. I don't know. I hate my name and pretty much every spelling of it.

My older son is Lukas. Worst spelling I have seen is Lucus.
Older daughter is Dylan. My least fave spelling is Dillon. I know it's legit, but I always read it as dill-on...as in, "I would like some dill on my xyz food."
Younger son is Ezra. I have seen Ezrah on a girl. Not a fan of that.
And my youngest daughter is Norah. I haven't seen any crazy spellings of that.

My name is Madeleine.

It's a nice name, a classic. But it means I have spent my life dealing with Madeline, Maddilynne, Madalen, Madison, Maddyson, Madisin, Madlyn ... all of which are WRONG.

It's Madeleine, surely that isn't too hard?

My name is Allison. I had a friend in highschool whose name was spelled Alicynne. I have no idea whether it was her given spelling or just a highschooler trying to be "different." She was a cool chick though.

Mine's Miranda. I've seen a couple of Morandas and Myrandas of people failing to spell my name correctly, but Miranda's pretty easy, at least in my experience for people to spell the original way. It's all the people who forget that it's Miranda and guess every other name that starts with an M that I have more trouble with.

My mother and my brother get Barbra'd and Ronin'd a lot though.

I'm Nicole and I've seen Nichole, Nickole, Niccole & Nicolle. My son is Nolan and I haven't seen anything different there but my husband, Jay, I've seen as Jai, which I pronounce as 'hi' because of Jai Alai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jai_alai)

For your Jennifer spelling - how about Ginnifer as in Ginnifer Goodwin? But I'm not sure if that's her given spelling of the name. IMDB tells me her given name is Jennifer Michelle, but then again, IMDB could be wrong :P

As for your question, my name's Mette. You can't really mess it up a lot. I've seen people write it as Medde, because they had only heard people say it, and as Metta as well. But I've never seen them been written like that as a given name.

Date: 2012-10-16 11:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] designingdreams.livejournal.com
The name Mette is awesome and it reminds me of Newsies (but I think is spelled 'Medda' in the film).

My sister's name is Kelsey, and we went to college with a 'Celsea'. It didn't seem as weird when I realized it was Chelsea without the H, but still, written, I'd have guessed 'Sell-see' or maybe 'Sell-see-uh'.

I'm Kayla, so I get Kaylah a lot (which I hate), and I got Cayla once. I know of a Kaela and a Kaila--the latter makes me want to say KY-la. I also tend to get called Karla a lot.

Ginny. Most people spell it with a J, even when I spell it out. I haven't seen many other variations, although I did see a Jini on I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant.

I'm a Mary Grace, so each name has to be butchered separately. I've seen Mari and know a Merry and then there's the Celtic Mhairi (I love that one's wackiness). Oh, and once, a classmate wrote my name as "Marry Grace." I guess we know his true feelings, then.

For Grace, there's really only Gracen/Gracin/Gracyn. Why are people sticking an unnecessary "N" on a perfectly good name?

My name is Nikki. There are several legit ways to spell it. Nikki,Niki, Nicki, Nicky, Nickie. If a person doesn't ask me how it's spelled, I don't even bother telling them. I honestly don't love my name and Ihave no preference for one spelling over the other.

I'm Georgia. I don't have a lot of bad spellings, but EVERYONE CALLS ME GEORGINA even if they've just met me and I've just said my name.

"Hi! I'm Georgia"
"Nice to mee you, Georgina."

WAT.

The worst ones I've seen have been posted here. I DID go to HS with a Christina whose evil parents spelled it Khrystynne.

My name is Nadine, but it's pronounced the French way, nah-DIN, though I'm okay with nah-DEEN. I personally loathe being called nay-deen. Even after I introduce myself, "Hi, I'm 'nah-din',", I get, "Nice to meet you, nay-deen!" *shudder*

But I've seen Naydeen, and Naydene, Working for a call centre a few years back, I also got called Nabini, Nadia, Natalie, Natasha, Lilian, Vivian, and Jennifer. Go figure.

I'm a Kirsty, so its hard to get it wrong, although my great aunt and uncle insist that it is spelt Christie. She is a Christine, so I think she won't expect that my name is not spelt like hers.

My sister is more unfortunate. She is a Mairead. The same aunt and uncle as above spell is Mhairhead, which is the worst attempt, but she gets a lot of interesting spelling attempts. She goes by Mog, which are her initials, and easier to remember!

My birth name is Kathleen, which I haven't seen spelled too weirdly. However, I have seen it as Kathlene. I also had a school librarian who spelled it Kathlyn (but still pronounced it like Kathleen), and she was born in the 20s or 30s.

As for the name I go by, Katie...there seem to be a myriad of spellings out there. The weirdest I've seen were Caydee and Kati. Kati was the name of my middle-aged boss, and it wasn't short for anything, either. It was funny because if we were both working, our coworkers would pronounce her name Kate-eye so we'd know which person they were calling!

The original poster mentioned Jennafer. I've seen that spelling, too. The girl's parents actually spelled it that way so that they could call her Jenna.

I'm a Jennifer and always get surprised when people ask me how to spell it. I also have a simple last name that people want me to spell, mainy I assume because while it's a very simple word, it's not a terribly common last name, so... But yeah. I actually haven't seen too many weird spellings for Jennifer, besides a Jeni and a Jene. I use Jennie, which some people seem to think is weird, though.

My name is Melissa and I have never seen anyone with the actual name spell it differently, although I have seen some interesting misspellings from people trying to spell my name.

Which is funny in and of itself - since everyone I know named Melissa spells it that way, why do so many people misspell it in so many strange ways?
