Just curious...
Oct. 16th, 2012 03:00 pmWhat is the most ~creative/unique~ spelling you have seen... of your own name or your kid(s) name(s)? Not necessarily a pretty or nice spelling, mind you lol, just something that made you go, "but... why?"
For me: I'm Jennifer. I have personally seen: Jenapher, Jennefer, Genifer and Jennafer. I also have seen it shortened to: Jenne (prn "Jen/Jenn"), Jenney, and Genny. Which leads me to: there is really no way to *spice up* Jennifer, it is what it is haha.
My son is Ryan. Last year in his class he had Reyane(*my bad, I misspelled it the first time, had to double check his class picture from last year) that was said like "Ryan." That just made me go "huh?" You can't just change the sound of letters or make them randomly silent... I mean, you can... but in this case, your child is likely being called "Ray-Ann" when their name is read.

Date: 2012-10-16 07:49 pm (UTC)My older son is Lukas. Worst spelling I have seen is Lucus.
Older daughter is Dylan. My least fave spelling is Dillon. I know it's legit, but I always read it as dill-on...as in, "I would like some dill on my xyz food."
Younger son is Ezra. I have seen Ezrah on a girl. Not a fan of that.
And my youngest daughter is Norah. I haven't seen any crazy spellings of that.

Date: 2012-10-16 08:22 pm (UTC)It's a nice name, a classic. But it means I have spent my life dealing with Madeline, Maddilynne, Madalen, Madison, Maddyson, Madisin, Madlyn ... all of which are WRONG.
It's Madeleine, surely that isn't too hard?

Date: 2012-10-16 10:41 pm (UTC)As for your question, my name's Mette. You can't really mess it up a lot. I've seen people write it as Medde, because they had only heard people say it, and as Metta as well. But I've never seen them been written like that as a given name.

Date: 2012-10-16 11:58 pm (UTC)My sister's name is Kelsey, and we went to college with a 'Celsea'. It didn't seem as weird when I realized it was Chelsea without the H, but still, written, I'd have guessed 'Sell-see' or maybe 'Sell-see-uh'.

"Nice to mee you, Georgina."
WAT.
The worst ones I've seen have been posted here. I DID go to HS with a Christina whose evil parents spelled it Khrystynne.

Date: 2012-10-17 07:54 pm (UTC)My sister is more unfortunate. She is a Mairead. The same aunt and uncle as above spell is Mhairhead, which is the worst attempt, but she gets a lot of interesting spelling attempts. She goes by Mog, which are her initials, and easier to remember!

Date: 2012-10-17 08:34 pm (UTC)As for the name I go by, Katie...there seem to be a myriad of spellings out there. The weirdest I've seen were Caydee and Kati. Kati was the name of my middle-aged boss, and it wasn't short for anything, either. It was funny because if we were both working, our coworkers would pronounce her name Kate-eye so we'd know which person they were calling!
The original poster mentioned Jennafer. I've seen that spelling, too. The girl's parents actually spelled it that way so that they could call her Jenna.

Date: 2012-10-23 10:46 pm (UTC)Which is funny in and of itself - since everyone I know named Melissa spells it that way, why do so many people misspell it in so many strange ways?
