Some new babies joined Wren's Gymboree class this week, all boys, all around 9mths:

Brody
Weston
Thor

Also, DH and I are fairly set on Sylvie if we have another girl in the future. Bearing in mind that we live in the UK, where Sylvia is a quite common middle aged lady's name and Sylvie is virtually unheard of, how often do you think she'll get called Sylvia instead? I love the name Sylvie, but definitely don't like Sylvia. WDYT? Is it too risky?

I think a lot of people will assume that Sylvie is a nickname for Sylvia, not realizing that it can also be a name in its own right (a la Sophia/Sophie). But since you live in the UK, where many more people give nicknames as full names (Charlie, Alfie), it might be less of a concern.

Just be nice and realize that most people are doing it out of ignorance/mishearing. My daughter is Philippa nn Pippa, and sometimes people mispronounce it based on seeing it written as "fil-EE-pa", that is, the Spanish/Italian/etc version. I just smile and say "It's PHIL-ip-pa".

I... I never knew how to pronounce Philippa until now. And I quite like it now. The nickname is quite cute too.
