Out of curiosity...

..and it's somewhat of a debate between fiance and I...

We're planning on naming our first son Calvin. He wants to use the nickname "Cal" and I'd prefer "Vinnie" as "Cal" just reminds me of a dry heave.

So...if you were naming your son Calvin, which nickname would you use?

Cal. To me, Vinnie sounds like a mafioso, while Cal sounds like a Harvard Law student.

I totally agree with your opinion of Vinnie. That's exactly what I thought of when I first heard it, heh.

I think the fact that Vinnie is such a hard-ass nickname (pardon my language) is why I like it so much.

I hadn't thought about the Harvard Law student angle....I was only imagining "backwoods hick".....but, I think I could handle Cal better if I thought "Harvard" instead of "redneck"....thanks!! :)

Agreed 100%, to me, Cal is a man in a suit carrying a briefcase, Vinnie is the skinny mob guy on the simpsons.

Yup! For me too. I also think of Cal Ripkin and other sports stars with the name Cal.
