Hazyl

Girl who served me yesterday. I never used to like Hazel but it was by association with someone I didn't really like. It grew on me though after I worked with a girl called Hazel who is awesome. This girl was maybe late teens so I don't know if creative spellings are even as new as I thought they were.

I recently started back to college and there is a girl in my class called Linzi. I now know two young women who spell their name that way. I really like Lindsay but for some reason that spelling with the Z isn't super offensive to my eyes.

WDYT? :)

I know a 25+ woman who chooses to spell her name Linzi despite her birth certificate spelling it Lindsay. Perhaps the alternate/unique spellings from a while ago have more to do with the individual than their parents..?

Just the other day, I was thinking about Hazel and how rarely I see it.  I like it a lot but that's just awful...

The unnecessary "y"s and "z"s just kill me. Maybe I'm not one to talk because my daughter's name is Elysa (like Elisa), but she is named after a character in a video game and this was how it was spelled. Plus, it wasn't *my* first choice... my husband chose it. But still, I think Hazel is such a pretty name and the "y" just ruins it. I don't think Lindsay/Lindsey is a bad name, but it's just not my style since it reminds me of a million girls that I went to school with. But throwing in the "z" is just ridiculous.

I quite like Hazel. I very much dislike Hazyl.

If someone is choosing to spell their name Linzi, that's their decision, and yeah, for some reason the spelling isn't driving me totally bonkers, but if that's how their given name was actually spelled by their parents...well, that I think I would find irritating.

I'm pretty sure Linzi is a commonly accepted spelling over in England.

I also think the comment saying that a lot of the spellings might be self-inflicted probably also has a point. when my mom was in 8th grade she was one of 8 Peggys in her class, so she decided to be ~~different~~ and spell it Peggie. she still uses that spelling to this day, but as it's a nickname and not a given name I think it's not as bad, since her birth certificate doesn't say Peggy it says Margaret.

in high school my one cousin tried going as Jessika for a year or two. it was spelled like that on anything that wasn't a legal document. she starred in her school's musical one of those years so the playbill (or whatever it's called) had like a gazillion ads taken out by people supporting her and it's all JESSIKA this and JESSIKA that.. and then she grew up and went back to her legal spelling.

What is with people taking a perfectly lovely name and just screwing it up with stupid spelling? Ugh.

FWIW, I really like Hazel.

The next town over from my hometown had a mayor named Linzie--a male Linzie--so I associate this spelling with guys.
