Yesterday, I met a little boy named Aslan.  His mother said it more like "Az-lin" than "Az-lan", but I asked, "Aslan?  Like the lion from Narnia?" (in an upbeat way), and she said "Yes.  I've only met one: him."

I'm sure it sounds crazy in the abstract, but the name actually fit the kid.  I'm not sure how, but it did.  And as far as literary namesakes go, this one has pretty much nothing but good connotations, like Atticus does.

I really like Atticus, not only for the great connotation but because it's a legitimate name. I'm not sure if Aslan is, and to be honest the movies kinda ruined the connotation for me, but I can see it working out really well. If the boy doesn't end up religious he might hate it, though.

A colleague who speaks that language told me that Aslan in turkish actually means "lion".

Maybe that's why they named the lion from Narnia like that...

I've met two Aslans! Both were from devout Christian families, which makes the name extra weird for me. One pronounced is ASS-lan, the other more like you mentioned, AZ-lin. Not attractive.

And I like Lion names---Judah, Lev, etc. I like Atticus too. :)

My old boss is called Aslan and it fits him perfectly - he's 6'2" and from New Zealand. I think it's an actual Turkish name, meaning lion, which must have been where CS Lewis got it for the book.
