Aug. 20th, 2006 05:29 pmI've never made or had a "list." Typically, I'd see a name I liked, hollar it at my husband to get his gut reaction, and then either "eh" or "oooh!" it myself and that was the end. Today, I decided I needed to make a list. I'm fairly confident in the female name we like but have been wishy washy about the boys names, so here is my boy list. Please feel free to tear it apart. Give me combinations that you like, reasons you like, reasons you hate anything. Not every name has a special meaning to me, many do, some I just like the sound of. I'm not actually naming a child, I'm just compiling a list for future reference. Keep that in mind! You might notice that a lot of the names fall into the Gaelic or Hebrew category. I'm part Irish and have a deep love for Ireland. I'm also Christian and that's where the Hebrew ones come into play. *'s are names we'd quickly consider using. Anyway, without further ado:
Cain
Abijah
Alex (we DO NOT like Alexander-- probably not really one we'd use anyway, just like it)
Aleksi (husband hates it)
Aras
Anderson (my maiden name)
Elijah* (our top boys name currently, probably will be bumped before too long)
Aaron* (hubby's mn, we like it as the mn for Titus)
Jabe* (family name)
Garrick
Dimitri (husband said it's too russian)
Bryon (spelling is a family thing, my dad and brother's mn, would only use as a mn)
Deacon
Dathan
Brogan
Kai
Eliakim (my husband actually said, "HELL NO!")
Emmerson
Finley
Gavin
Grayson
Isaac*
Jonah
Bjorn (I love it, hubby HATES it)

Date: 2006-08-20 10:59 pm (UTC)Jabe took my husband a little while to get used to. It's an old family name and I think the original name was actually Jabeus but even on his tombstone it just says Jabe as do the majority of records we have on him.

Date: 2006-08-21 01:32 am (UTC)I think the more off the wall Biblical ones on my list are Abijah, Eliakim, and Thaddeus, none of which I'd really use. Cain, Ezekiel, Malachi, Gideon, Mathias, Titus and Silas might not be exceptionally popular, but they definitely dont fall in the "oh holy crap what is THAT name?" category for me. (Jeraboam, Adonibezek, Naphtali, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Belteshazzar-- Biblical names come MUCH worse than Gideon!) Elijah, Aaron, Isaac, Jonah, Asher, Elias, Isaiah, Jude, Levi, and Simon aren't uncommon at all. In fact, I think they're among some of the better Biblical names!
Funny you should specifically mention you like Blythe, because it's probably one of my least favorite on the list.

Date: 2006-08-21 01:15 am (UTC)I think it would be horrible on a girl. It wouldnt be much better on a boy. I'd never use it, but it has an interesting sound.

Date: 2006-08-20 11:29 pm (UTC)Anyways, here are the ones I like:
Aras - reminds me of the most recent Survivor winner :)!
Dimitri - So you think you can dance :)! It may sound very russian, but it's nice as a middle name :)!
Deacon - this name is a new lust of mine for some reason...
Kai - my boyfriends name!!! :)!!
Finley - I don't think I'd ever use it, but I adore this name!
Asher - I love this name... I wish it didn't remind me of "ashing a cigerette" though.
Dane - good middle name!
Conley - I like it *adds to list*
Cale - again, middle name :)!
Lachlan - I like the nn "Lach"
Owen - I love this name... too bad I know too many people who have it :(!
Sloane - like, would never use.
Spencer - again, i like it, but i couldn't use it.
Vance - this is my sisters future son, haha... she's obsessed with "Van Wilder" :)

Date: 2006-08-21 02:52 am (UTC)I'm awful with boys names though...
I have my favorite and my boy loves it too, so I don't have to worry about it for some time.

Date: 2006-08-21 01:10 am (UTC)Alex/Alexander isnt a name we'd actually use. In fact, there's only a few names on that list that we would use. I know my husband doesnt like Alexander because of the length, so I dont think any of your suggestions would help that, but I do appreciate your attempt. Alastar reminds me of the character on the soap opera Passions.
As if my reply wasnt long enough, here are the names from that list that we'd actually consider naming one of our sons:
Elijah Malachi
Titus Aaron
Conley Jabe
Owen
Isaac
Ian
Isaiah
Malachi, Aaron, Jabe and Isaiah are only considered for middlenames. I only compiled the list for fun. Obviously, the majority are just names that catch my attention, not names I would stick my kids with! =)
