[identity profile] ashadelic.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I've never made or had a "list." Typically, I'd see a name I liked, hollar it at my husband to get his gut reaction, and then either "eh" or "oooh!" it myself and that was the end. Today, I decided I needed to make a list. I'm fairly confident in the female name we like but have been wishy washy about the boys names, so here is my boy list. Please feel free to tear it apart. Give me combinations that you like, reasons you like, reasons you hate anything. Not every name has a special meaning to me, many do, some I just like the sound of. I'm not actually naming a child, I'm just compiling a list for future reference. Keep that in mind! You might notice that a lot of the names fall into the Gaelic or Hebrew category. I'm part Irish and have a deep love for Ireland. I'm also Christian and that's where the Hebrew ones come into play. *'s are names we'd quickly consider using. Anyway, without further ado:

Cain
Abijah
Alex (we DO NOT like Alexander-- probably not really one we'd use anyway, just like it)
Aleksi (husband hates it)
Aras
Anderson (my maiden name)
Elijah* (our top boys name currently, probably will be bumped before too long)
Aaron* (hubby's mn, we like it as the mn for Titus)
Jabe* (family name)
Garrick
Dimitri (husband said it's too russian)
Bryon (spelling is a family thing, my dad and brother's mn, would only use as a mn)
Deacon
Dathan
Brogan
Kai
Eliakim (my husband actually said, "HELL NO!")
Emmerson
Finley
Gavin
Grayson
Isaac*
Jonah
Bjorn (I love it, hubby HATES it)
Asher
Blythe
Blaise
Brody (I * it, hubby doesnt)
Titus* (with the mn Aaron)
Malachi* (mn for Elijah)
Garrett
Dieter (hubby says it's geeky)
Dane
Caolan
Boston
Conley** (we REALLY like this one!)
Declan
Caedmon
Cale
Ezekiel
Garvan
Gideon*
Ian*
Isaiah*
Jude (half a *)
Keaton
Keagan
Landon
Lachlan (one of my faves, hubby hates)
Levi (half a *)
Mathias
Owen*
Rowan
Ronan
Seanan
Sloane (hubby laughed at me=\)
Simon (half a *)
Silas
Spencer
Thaddeus (nn Thad, not likely one we'd use)
Taneli (LOVE it, but it sounds kinda feminine)
Tate
Thane
Tobias
Vance
Yancey
Wyatt
Xavier
Zane

Conley Jabe is a name we really liked. What do you think of it? TIA for your opinions! Also, let me know if my commentary is annoying in the middle of the list and I'll edit it out!

Some of these are exceptionally bad, but I love Simon and Isaac. Isaac is my son's name and Simon is one I would use for a future boy.

i like conley but not jabe- it made me think of jabba the hut! i love almost all of your other names but bjorn. the baby bjorn infant carrier pretty much ruins that one.

I'm sorry but the vast majority of your names sound like cheesy soap opera stars and the rest are like the more terrible biblical names from the book of Chronicles. I like Blythe, Declan, Owen and Vance, but don't love any of them. Conley might be OK. Jabe only scrapes by because its a family name, but I dont know if I'd inflict it on a child.

Isn't Sloan a girls name (and a bad one at that...)?

Wow! I wish I had such a long boys list!! *jealous*

Anyways, here are the ones I like:

Aras - reminds me of the most recent Survivor winner :)!
Dimitri - So you think you can dance :)! It may sound very russian, but it's nice as a middle name :)!
Deacon - this name is a new lust of mine for some reason...
Kai - my boyfriends name!!! :)!!
Finley - I don't think I'd ever use it, but I adore this name!
Asher - I love this name... I wish it didn't remind me of "ashing a cigerette" though.
Dane - good middle name!
Conley - I like it *adds to list*
Cale - again, middle name :)!
Lachlan - I like the nn "Lach"
Owen - I love this name... too bad I know too many people who have it :(!
Sloane - like, would never use.
Spencer - again, i like it, but i couldn't use it.
Vance - this is my sisters future son, haha... she's obsessed with "Van Wilder" :)

Be careful with the name Titus. Kids will inevitably start calling him "TitASS" (tight ass)....

Titus is a nice, masculine name. Ty is an awesome nickname for it.

Haha... it happens :)!
I'm awful with boys names though...
I have my favorite and my boy loves it too, so I don't have to worry about it for some time.

Some are a little geeky and others I haven't really ever heard before (Yancey, Jabe, Brogan - isn't that a kind of shoe?)

But I LOVE Finley, Jude, Lachlan and Xavier.

yeah I would worry about the tit-ass OR tight-ass despite really liking the name. I like a lot of your names, unlike most people here! I especailly like Owen, as it's like my favourite boy's name Rowan.
