So I saw an old friend of mine the other day and she's 8 months pregnant. She's 19 and having a girl blah blah blah.

Anyway, of course the first question is 'what are you naming her?'

'Valkyrie.'

pronounced val-KYE-ree.

...it's an interesting name in theory but really, it kind of makes me wanna facepalm. :(

Oh well. What do you all think?

The word "valkyrie" comes from the Old Norse valkyrja (plural "valkyrur"), from the words "val" (slaughter) and "kyrja" (to choose). Literally the term means choosers of the slain. It is cognate to the Old English "wælcyrige". The German form "Walküre" was coined by Richard Wagner from Old Norse.[1]
