There's a pattern in my mother's family that I thought might interest you, [livejournal.com profile] baby_names folks: family members marrying/dating someone who has the same first name as another member of the family.

ex.

My great-grandfather's name was Ervin. My great-aunt, his daughter, grew up to marry a man also named Ervin.

My grandparents had four children:
Randall (Randy) Boyd
Annette Marie
Kimberly (Kim) Ann
Paula Claudette

The youngest of my aunts and uncles, Paula Claudette, grew up and married a man named Randall (Randy) Blair. Her husband has the same first name as her older brother--this makes gatherings endlessly confusing, because we're a pretty close bunch.

Annette Marie is my mother, and her SO's name is Eric. After my biological grandfather passed away, my grandmother married a man--also conveniently named, you guessed it, Eric.

Kimberly Ann has a teenaged son, Justin William, whose longterm girlfriend is Kimberley Anne.

Randall Boyd's daughter is Ashley May, and she just called to ask if she could bring her boyfriend, Justin, to my family's Christmas dinner.

Does this happen in anyone else's family?

I dated a guy once with the same first name as my brother. It usually wasn't a big deal because I was away at college at the time so there wasn't a lot of mixed interaction.

There would be times, however, that I would be telling a story about one of them, receive a strange look, and realize that I needed to specify which one I was talking about because otherwise the story was creepy/weird/whatever.
