First time post; beginning to make lists!

Hi there, I joined when this comm was in the spotlight but I've not posted until now.

My partner and I are already sort of discussing baby names, as we wish to start trying for a baby shortly after our marriage. We both like classic sounding names, such as Atticus.

I suggested to him that I've always liked the name Erik, mostly because of the Viking history tied to it.

He thinks it looks like a "cutesy way of spelling Eric," and I disagree; it would originally have been spelled with a Kenaz rune (and I think the letter C is redundant anyways).

We haven't even added it to an official list yet, but I'd love to hear your opinions on it. I'm probably in a minority for hating the letter C so much, hehe.

I dislike the name either way, but Eric looks more complete to me. For the most part, I dislike K's in names.

Don't like the name but if I had to choose it would be with the k as that is the true spelling of it. Atticus is a name that has grown on me since watching the show "The Middle," the actor you plays Brick is named Atticus

I like the name Erik/Eric, they are both legit spellings, and personally I prefer Erik. I tend to like Ks more than Cs as well when both versions are equally usable (Katherine versus Catherine, for another example).

I agree that C is redundant. I actually read a book on the history of the alphabet (Letter Perfect: The Marvelous History of Our Alphabet From A to Z) and it was totally fascinating.

Anyway - I like Erik better. I once met someone named Erick, which while redundant might satisfy you both.

no, I agree, C should not exist. there was once a mom in some LJ groups I'm in a while back who had a broken c on her keyboard. she easily spelled everything with a k or an s.

I'm not fond of the name Eric/k but either spelling is fine.

In Dutch, Erik is almost always spelled like this. I like it. I don't think it's cutesy at all, nor is it creative, it's just a different way of spelling Eric.

Er, I don't know anything about runes, but you can tell him, "Well, Magneto spells it 'Erik.'" That's good enough in my book.

i think i would choose Eric but Erik would not bother me. I think the viking vampire on true blood is named Erik.

I like Erik, and I don't generally like k names. (Erika looks strange to me, for example, or Kristina). In my first semester at uni one of our TAs was a Swedish fellow named Tom-Erik so maybe I just have a thing for Norwegian spellings/men ;)
