This is going to be a strange request...

I've got a friend who is undergoing gender reassignment pretty soon.  Her current name is John Paul.  What are some girl names that are similar, and might have the same nickname (JP)?  We're at a loss really, but she'd rather do a similar name than start completely over.  If she can't find something that "fits" she's going with Elizabeth, nn Liz.

I had a cousin that went from Raymond to Rachel, for example, keeping Ray as the nickname the same.  (Well it went to Rae, but same idea and pronunciation.)

Thanks!

Really? It's pretty standard/popular, JFK being the biggest example, but others like Jack Nicholson, Jack London, Jack Layton...I think Jack's been the standard nickname for John for centuries.

John F. Kennedy often went by Jack.

I found this: In Medieval England, "John" was used as a generic name for a person (the usage John Doe still survives). The French used the name "Jacques" with the same purpose, and the two became conflated.
