[identity profile] snoglobel.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This is going to be a strange request...

I've got a friend who is undergoing gender reassignment pretty soon.  Her current name is John Paul.  What are some girl names that are similar, and might have the same nickname (JP)?  We're at a loss really, but she'd rather do a similar name than start completely over.  If she can't find something that "fits" she's going with Elizabeth, nn Liz.

I had a cousin that went from Raymond to Rachel, for example, keeping Ray as the nickname the same.  (Well it went to Rae, but same idea and pronunciation.)

Thanks!

Joanna
Joan
Jean (Anglicized form of Jean, prn Geen)
Jeanne (French name)
Jolene (this is the odd one out, but I like it)
Juniper (so that JP would make sense just from the first name)

Otherwise, she could still get JP from her initials, like now
Joan Pauline
Joanna Paula
Jean Polina

Different suggestions:
Jasmin Pearl
Jennifer Paris
Julia Priscilla
Jessica Patricia
Jane Piper

I'm struggling to find a J and P that go as a whole name like John Paul but here are some names I like :) I'm sure lots of them would work as a middle name rather than JohnPaul if that makes sense :p

Joy
Jolene
Julia
Jean
Jessica [I love the nn Jess]

Penelope
Patricia [love the nns for that]
Pandora
Petra
Piper
Pepper

Just wanna throw this out there:

I have a friend who went FtM and chose Jayden. I think it's quite obvious with a trendier name of the day that he renamed himself, which of course doesn't bother him but may bother your friend. Just something to keep in mind, if the friend wants to be Jayda or something trendy :)

Really? It's pretty standard/popular, JFK being the biggest example, but others like Jack Nicholson, Jack London, Jack Layton...I think Jack's been the standard nickname for John for centuries.

John F. Kennedy often went by Jack.

I found this: In Medieval England, "John" was used as a generic name for a person (the usage John Doe still survives). The French used the name "Jacques" with the same purpose, and the two became conflated.
