Introduction and Favorite Names
Nov. 12th, 2011 06:44 pmHi! I saw this comm in the spotlight and I got so excited! I've always loved names and I've kept a name list since I was in elementary school. Like many other people (I've discovered!) I started out by creating characters but over the past few years I've realized that I just love researching names. I tend to lean towards either very traditional names, or unusual/rare names, and I don't like very many fad names. I'll admit I do love most of the -aden names that are so popular these days, but I try to keep them off my lists because they're becoming so common.
I'm nineteen-- single and not planning on having kids anytime soon. Someday I'd like to have four kids, so I've been keeping a list of my top four boys names and top four girls names, so I'm prepared no matter what. :) For some reason, I like boys' names A LOT more than girls, and my girl list stays static for a long time, whereas my boy list changes every few months it seems.
Here are my current lists:
Boys:
Robert Christian (nn Robbie) Robert is for my dad
James Cohen (nn Jay)
August Holden
Rhys Alexander
Girls:
Madeleine Abbigael (pronounced Madeline not Madelyn; different spelling of Abigail)
Sarah November
Olivia Aven Faith
Sophia Grace (nn Sophie)
Other Favorites:
Boys: Nolan, Greyson, Orion, Frey, Arthur, Soren, Hector, Neil, Jeremy (nn Remy), William (nn Liam)
Girls: Leah, Cadence (after a friend), Shiloh, Norah, Valecia (my middle name), Wendy, Thalia (THAY-leah, or THAYL-ee-uh)
I'd love to hear any thoughts-- comments or criticism, whatever! I love this comm! :D

Date: 2011-11-13 02:49 am (UTC)I like James, August, Alexander, Madeline (spelled this way, same pronunciation though), Sarah, and Sophia.
Madeleine is actually Mad uh lane, I think. Why that spelling of Abigail?

Date: 2011-11-13 02:54 am (UTC)I love the sound of Abigail but not the look of it, so I played around with it until I found something I liked. However, I chose to use it as only a middle name because of the unique spelling.
Thanks for your thoughts! :)

Date: 2011-11-13 02:58 am (UTC)I really love that Sophia and Grace together mean "wisdom and grace." I think that's a great endowment for a girl.

Date: 2011-11-13 03:20 am (UTC)I love that you used November as a name. Madeleine is a favorite of mine, but my husband doesn't like the spelling and I wouldn't want to change it.
I like most of your boy names too.

Date: 2011-11-13 04:55 am (UTC)I LOVE Olivia, but I fear it is too "matchy" with Sophia.
I love Greyson, Christian, & Orion :) Christian is one of our potential boy names, but as my husband is Jewish (I'm not), we feel it might sort of offend some members of his family, ha.

Date: 2011-11-13 05:21 am (UTC)I don't know the family dynamics, but to me Christian is a common enough name not to have any automatic implications that should make it a big deal. But I'm not Jewish, so I don't know that perspective. Maybe changing the spelling would make a difference? Like Kristian, Cristian, Krystian...
