So I was at the gym yesterday and another mother was collecting her daughter from child minding. She had a personalised back pack that read 'Peri' on the back. The little girl was so sweet - incredibly cute and I was like NAW!

But then... as they were walking away the mother says "Winkle! Come here" and I put two and two together.

Yes. Periwinkle.

I checked this morning on the sign in sheet and her full name is Periwinkle. I don't know whether I love it or hate it!

In other news my friend just had a baby and named her Calypso Pearl.

Periwinkle makes me think of that annoying whiny cat from Blue's Clues. Definitely not for human use.

When I read the nickname Peri, I was hoping the name would be Persephone. Periwinkle is pretty awful. Some flower names work. This is not one of them.

Calypso is pretty neat, and I like Pearl. I'm not sure how I feel about the combination though.

Periwinkle shouldn't be a name. Pretty sure Scarlett is the only color that can get away with being a name of a human being. I think some people need to remember these are PEOPLE we are naming, not dolls or animals.

I actually kind of like Calypso, it has an interesting ring to it on a child, however, I think I'd expect the child to be a bit of a handful.

I guess I never thought of Olive as a color, where I'm from it's like, olive capital of the world so I always think of the food. And I totally forgot about Violet and Hazel, and Gray definitely never crossed my mind, so you are right, but, yea, there is something about periwinkle that just should never be strapped to a person!

If I just saw Calypso, I would assume it was a boy's name. =\ I could almost see it for a boy, but definitely not a girl.

Calypso Pearl is such a badass name. I probably wouldn't name my kid that because it sound a little...superhero/comic book character, but I still really like it.

I had a class with a girl named Perry and I thought it was repulsive. Her full name was Perry, her mom's maiden name, not Perrywinkle. Perrywinkle just takes repulsive to a whole new level, though.

I think Calipso is kind of cool and definitely think of a girl. Pearl is a little too old lady-ish for me, don't know why, but it's not a horrible name. Wouldn't pair it with Calipso though. But, not my kid. :)

I think Periwinkle would be adorable as a middle name or for a cat or something...I don't hate it, but I'm kinda glad it's not my name. I imagine she'll get lots of "winky" teasing...well maybe not, since you're in Australia and I don't know if winky is a slang term there, but here it's a cutesy slang for penis...

Calypso Pearl is interesting. At first I don't feel like they go together but then I think of someone pearl diving off of Jamaica (lol... idk). Kinda sounds like the name of a rum drink.
