[identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
When I first joined this comm I just posted my list and waited for the responses. Now that I have participated in some dialogue about names, so much has changed. The biggest thing is that I used to have 3 middle names that I loved and never would deviate from (Rose (my name), Grace (because of Jesus) and Joy (also because of Jesus)). Now, I have a number of middle names with more substance than those, even though I still think they have a lot of substance. Beware, it's kind of long although there are only 6 names for each sex.

1. Susanna Grace or Susanna Janine
According to www.behindthename.com, Susanna comes from a word meaning Lily in Hebrew, and in modern Hebrew it means Rose. My best friend LOOOVES lilies and Hebrew, and I always think of her when I see the name. I think I would talk about her to my daughter if this was her name. This friend's name is Janiece, which is similar to Janine, which is my grandma's name. Susanna is also one of the women who attended to the needs of Jesus and the disciples in the Gospels.

2. Lenora Joy or Lenora Claire
I wish there was more information on this name, because I can't believe it just "comes from" Eleanor. But I love it nonetheless. Joy is another best friend's middle name, and Claire is a close cousin. I added the name to my list as the result of this comm and I think it sounds LOVELY. I also like that it means, indirectly, "clear or bright." Other sites say it comes from Leona, which means "like a Lion." I love that.

3. Isabel Joy
I love Isabel because I love Hispanic names. I really don't like Isabella, because to me it sounds like it's trying to hard to be dramatic and beautiful. With so many girls named Isabella, there's bound to be one shy or not-so-pretty one. Lol. But Isabel, I love. I adore the zzzz sound and I also like ending on a L. This is one name I would take suggestions for. I have not found anything else I like except Joy.

4. Corrina Rose
Least meaningful name on the list. I think the combo sounds amazing and my name is Rose.

5. Eliana Grace
Eliana is "My God has answered" in Hebrew. I plan to adopt, and I would choose this name because adopting will be an answered lifelong prayer. Grace, because only by God's grace will I be blessed with an adopted little girl. According to behindthename, it is also the Spanish version of the name Éliane, which means "sun."

6. Addison Rose or Addison Joy
Ok so we all have a trendy last name on our list. I can't help it. I adore it.

1. Dominic Matthew
This name means "Of the Lord." Matthew is my dad.

2. Austin Christopher
I am one of the few who likes most place names, and I really like Austin. My husband is Christopher, and he has his dad's first name as a middle name. I don't think I will be able to escape this, so I am trying to embrace it.

3. Cameron ???
I cannot think of a name to go with Cameron. It's low on my list, because as you can see meaning is pretty important to me. But Cameron just means "crooked nose." :D Suggestions welcome, however.

4. Emanuel ???
This is because of my love for Hispanic names. Emmanuel means "God is with us." That is enough for me.

5. Ethan Christopher
I love Ethan, despite its popularity. It means "Solid" in Hebrew. Christopher is the husband again...

6. Eliakim or Elias Matthew or Jonathan
These two names are an exception to the rule described below. Eliakim means "God Rises," and Elias is a cognate of Elijah, "my God is YAHWEH." Matthew is my dad and Jonathan is too common but lovely, and my brother-in-law's name.

I know that a lot of people think that I am the type of person who would love ancient Biblical names and have a collection of children with old Hebrew or Greek names only Christians have heard of, like some missionary family in Europe. While it's true that I love most old Hebrew and Greek Biblical names, including Josiah (God supports), Ishmael (God will hear) and Merari ("bitter," youngest son of Levi) and would love to USE some of these far less common names, it's also important to me that the name can stand on its own--so that my child, although my prayer is that he will identify as a Christian, does not feel forced into his faith because of the weight of his meaningful name.

Comment on the whole list, here for you to copy! =):
