Here I go...
Jul. 28th, 2006 07:21 amWhen I first joined this comm I just posted my list and waited for the responses. Now that I have participated in some dialogue about names, so much has changed. The biggest thing is that I used to have 3 middle names that I loved and never would deviate from (Rose (my name), Grace (because of Jesus) and Joy (also because of Jesus)). Now, I have a number of middle names with more substance than those, even though I still think they have a lot of substance. Beware, it's kind of long although there are only 6 names for each sex.
1. Susanna Grace or Susanna Janine
According to www.behindthename.com, Susanna comes from a word meaning Lily in Hebrew, and in modern Hebrew it means Rose. My best friend LOOOVES lilies and Hebrew, and I always think of her when I see the name. I think I would talk about her to my daughter if this was her name. This friend's name is Janiece, which is similar to Janine, which is my grandma's name. Susanna is also one of the women who attended to the needs of Jesus and the disciples in the Gospels.
2. Lenora Joy or Lenora Claire
I wish there was more information on this name, because I can't believe it just "comes from" Eleanor. But I love it nonetheless. Joy is another best friend's middle name, and Claire is a close cousin. I added the name to my list as the result of this comm and I think it sounds LOVELY. I also like that it means, indirectly, "clear or bright." Other sites say it comes from Leona, which means "like a Lion." I love that.
3. Isabel Joy
I love Isabel because I love Hispanic names. I really don't like Isabella, because to me it sounds like it's trying to hard to be dramatic and beautiful. With so many girls named Isabella, there's bound to be one shy or not-so-pretty one. Lol. But Isabel, I love. I adore the zzzz sound and I also like ending on a L. This is one name I would take suggestions for. I have not found anything else I like except Joy.
4. Corrina Rose
Least meaningful name on the list. I think the combo sounds amazing and my name is Rose.
5. Eliana Grace
Eliana is "My God has answered" in Hebrew. I plan to adopt, and I would choose this name because adopting will be an answered lifelong prayer. Grace, because only by God's grace will I be blessed with an adopted little girl. According to behindthename, it is also the Spanish version of the name Éliane, which means "sun."
6. Addison Rose or Addison Joy
Ok so we all have a trendy last name on our list. I can't help it. I adore it.
1. Dominic Matthew
This name means "Of the Lord." Matthew is my dad.
2. Austin Christopher
I am one of the few who likes most place names, and I really like Austin. My husband is Christopher, and he has his dad's first name as a middle name. I don't think I will be able to escape this, so I am trying to embrace it.
3. Cameron ???
I cannot think of a name to go with Cameron. It's low on my list, because as you can see meaning is pretty important to me. But Cameron just means "crooked nose." :D Suggestions welcome, however.
4. Emanuel ???
This is because of my love for Hispanic names. Emmanuel means "God is with us." That is enough for me.
5. Ethan Christopher
I love Ethan, despite its popularity. It means "Solid" in Hebrew. Christopher is the husband again...
6. Eliakim or Elias Matthew or Jonathan
These two names are an exception to the rule described below. Eliakim means "God Rises," and Elias is a cognate of Elijah, "my God is YAHWEH." Matthew is my dad and Jonathan is too common but lovely, and my brother-in-law's name.
I know that a lot of people think that I am the type of person who would love ancient Biblical names and have a collection of children with old Hebrew or Greek names only Christians have heard of, like some missionary family in Europe. While it's true that I love most old Hebrew and Greek Biblical names, including Josiah (God supports), Ishmael (God will hear) and Merari ("bitter," youngest son of Levi) and would love to USE some of these far less common names, it's also important to me that the name can stand on its own--so that my child, although my prayer is that he will identify as a Christian, does not feel forced into his faith because of the weight of his meaningful name.

Date: 2006-07-28 04:47 pm (UTC)2. Lenora Joy or Lenora Claire-I like Leonora better than Lenora.
3. Isabel Joy- I LOVE this spelling of Isabel
4. Corrina Rose- This is a pretty combo
5. Eliana Grace -oooh I really like the name Eliana, if it weren't too close to my Hebrew name (Elana) I would think of adding it to my list.
6. Addison Rose or Addison Joy -I don't like this, it's too "last namey" for me.
1. Dominic Matthew- I like Matthew alot, but I confess I like the feminine version of Domenic, Domenique better.
2. Austin Christopher-I know too many Austins under the age of 5 :(
3. Cameron- not my style
4. Emanuel -not my style
5. Ethan Christopher- I really like the name Ethan and I like the meaning "strong, firm, mighty, permanent, steadfast".
6. Eliakim or Elias Matthew or Jonathan-I'm not too keen on either of these though I love the middle names and the nick name Elie (Eh-lee) is quite sweet. According to one of my books Eliakim means "God established" but that is also a nice meaning.

Date: 2006-07-28 05:19 pm (UTC)I don't like Sh sounds in Shoshana, and Susanna is the original name of the woman who ministered to Jesus I thought. Could be wrong, but we don't usually change the name in translation.
Is Leanora pronounced the same way as Lenora? If so I would use it, as I LOVE Eleanor.

Date: 2006-07-28 06:19 pm (UTC)2. I don't know as much about the Christian Bible as I do about the Torah. But Jesus is a Greek translation of Yeshua, Mary is the Greek translation of Miryam, and Susanna is the Greek translation of Shoshanna. The first two names probably were translated when the Septugiant was written. I'm assuming Shoshanna was translated to Susanna in a later Greek translation of the 'New Testament' because I doubt there were alot of people in the middle east who had greek names.
But none of that matters if Susanna is the name that you prefer :)
3. I think that Leonora is pronounced the same way as Lenora because I once had a manager named Leonor which was pronounced the same way as Lenore. She was from Ecudor, so I think that Leonora would be the Spanish translation.

Date: 2006-07-28 05:58 pm (UTC)1. Susanna Grace or Susanna Janine-- LOVE Susanna Grace.
2. Lenora Joy or Lenora Claire-- Lenora is nms, but I like Lenora Joy
3. Isabel Joy-- Absolutely adore Isabel! If only my husband did!
4. Corrina Rose-- I really like the way this sounds
5. Eliana Grace-- I love Eliana! It's not a name I'm familiar with, but it's great! I might add it to my list if our top boys name wasnt Elijah.
6. Addison Rose or Addison Joy-- Not a big fan of Addison, but I understand that everyone has "the trendy one" *grin*
1. Dominic Matthew-- REALLY like Dominic. Good combo.
2. Austin Christopher-- I have a little cousin named Austin. He's a cutie. Not a name I would ever use, but it's got a good connection for me.
3. Cameron-- nms, but Cameron Matthew could work.
4. Emanuel-- This one, for me, is a little too meaningful to name my child. For me, it would be like naming my child "Messiah" or "Lion of the Tribe of Judah" or "Bread of Life" or "The Word" or "Adoni"(I'll stop now). It's a beautiful name with a wonderful meaning, but I couldnt use it.
5. Ethan Christopher-- Ethan is super cute, but a little too trendy for my taste. It sounds good with Christopher.
6. Eliakim or Elias Matthew or Jonathan-- LOVE Elias! It's a very fresh alternative to Elijah and I only wish my husband loved it!
Other Biblical names I love:
Micah Aaron (my husband's name)
Philip Andrew (his brother)
Elijah Malachi (our first son, more than likely)
Titus Aaron (possibly #2 son)
Silas
Ezekiel
and.. although I'd never use it... Abijah

Date: 2006-07-28 07:48 pm (UTC)Biblically speaking, he was the 2nd son of Samuel. He became a judge of Israel. (1 Sam 8:2-- noted as Abiah)
It's also the name of two priests in the Book of Nehemiah.
Another Abijah was the son of King Rehoboam. He succeeded the throne of Judah and reigned for 3 years, but he was rather corrupt. (2 Chronicles 12:16, and chp 13 tells about his reign)

Date: 2006-07-28 11:34 pm (UTC)Claire is my name. You're right about the meaning. In French it is actually the word for clear and light. In Latin, it apparently means bright/brilliant/famous too but I don't speak Latin so I can't confirm that one. I've seen my name used as a word in French many times though

Date: 2006-07-30 05:56 am (UTC)i adore susanna (but i like it with an h on the end), and elias has taken elijahs place on our boys list. i also really like isabel. i dont like: cameron (ive never liked it for a boy or a girl), lenora (though i could probably be swayed on that one), and austin (way too trendy and it has a bad stigma, at least where i live).
