From BabyZone.com: "Names Dads love but Mom's hate"
What do you think?
I've put the names they listed, as well as any also listed in the paragraph explanation for why it was added. In parenthesis are the reasons they give for why Dads like and Moms hate.
1. Ace (Why they chose this: Dads think Rock Star, Moms think Ace Ventura...)
2. Axel (Dads want to remember their "Rock and Roll youth", Moms want to forget...)
3. Carina/Cara/Honey (Dads like endearing names for girls, Moms want to prevent it...)
4. Cash (Dads like it better than Chase, Sterling, Barclays, Forbes...)
5. Elexis (Dads think it sounds like a computer character, Moms see constantly having to correct from Alexis)
6. Jack (Dads think it's heroic, like Jack Sparrow, Moms think too popular and would prefer Jackson)
7. Maximus (Dads think its strong, Moms should tell them it's the number one name for dogs)
8. Melissa/Vanessa/Tiffany/Amanda (Dads like "frilly Victorian-Valentine" names. Moms should remind them that they all reached peak popularity in the 70's and 80's)
9. Peyton [on a boy] (Dads like Peyton Manning, Moms see that it's more popular on girls)
10. Richard Jr. (Dad is named Richard, wants to continue the name. Mom sees teasing with Dick as the nn and suggests it as a middle)
11. Venus/Desiree/Salome/Lolita/Delilah (Dads who don't want super frilly names often like "slightly naughty names.)
12. Wyatt [and other place names like: Dallas, Houston, Austin, Dakota, Cheyenne. Also "cowboy names: including Cody, Shane, Rider, Zane, Maverick] (Dads like because its cowboy-ish. Moms find it out of place in the suburbs or cities like Boston)

I know it's all just for fun though, so I'm not taking it very seriously ;)
I don't like any names on there...except for Cara and Dakota. Those are pretty cute.

I agree with you on the ridiculous gender stereotyping too. Also, is it me, or is there something slightly ... creepy, for want of a better word, in the idea that dads like 'slightly naughty' names for their daughters?

Complete these two sentences with your child's first and last names: "Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you your new President of the United States (or insert your country's leader), __________ __________" and "Get out those dollar bills - we are now presenting, for your enjoyment, on Stage 3 of the Wildcat Club, ______ _____!"
And then think real hard about which sentence it fits better in.

The only name my husband really loves that I don't like at all is Rebecca. And I think my dislike for it comes mostly from not particularly liking any of the Becky/Beccas I've known in my life. (Although he doesn't like those nicknames either, so he's willing to let go of it.)
There were a couple others that I guess fall under #8 - he liked them, I told him they were way too 80s to use now. But I forget what those were, and nothing he was THAT attached to.

If I remember right, my husband has shot down my suggestions of: Beatrix, Margot, Serafina, Felix, Caspian, and Emmett.
I've vetoed his choices of: Jessica, Lisa, Maria, Eva, Johann, and Ryan.

A cousin recently had a baby and named her Shyanne. This made me make this face -> :( ... why not use Cheyenne - it's a pretty name! -sigh-
Jane is mine and hubby's #1 girl's name, and I told him that I liked the sibset Richard and Jane after the Dick and Jane Reading Collection.
See Spot? See Spot run. Run, Spot, run!
