I have loved the name Ginger since i was 3years old due to my best friend at the time (well only friend hehe) Anyways I have stillloved it to this day and really want to use it. When i say the name i think of Ginger Rogers... but most people seem to think of a stirpper or something, which saddens me greatly...
maybe i'll use it for a middle name...
what do you think???

I think Ginger Spice-- from the Spice Girls.

I would probably use it as a middle name, or find a reasonably close Gin- name and call her Ginger as a nickname.

However, it's not a name I particularly like, and as long as it has meaning for you, you should use it however you like best!

I think it's a wonderful name. I don't have any connatations with it good or bad so maybe others wouldn't either.

You could always use it as a NN for Virginia. But I think it would be fine as a MN. It's not THAT bad, but to me it is a little stripper-ish, so it would be better off as a middle name.

If you name your child Ginger, when people MEET her they're not going to think stripper because they'll be staring at an adorable little baby. Choose a name you love!

I think it's a nice name. It's all about your little girl...and I'm sure they aren't going to think "stripper" when they see her. (as the person above me just said.)
My mom's name is Virginia, she was called "Ginger" throughout her teenage years, and now she goes by "Ginny."

For me when I think of Ginger, I also think of my in-laws' shih tzu Ginger:

I think it would be best as a middle name.. it's kind of hard to take a person named 'Ginger' too seriously IMO, especially when they get older. As a middle name I think it would be nice paired with the right first name.

It's ok. It does seem to have a number of associations though. But I still think it's a usable name. People get over associations once they know a real person by the name.

-Ginger Rogers
-Ginger from Gilligan's Island. "...the moo-vie star!"
-Ginger with the artificial leg from the episode of Friend's
-Ginger in general as a pet's name. We had a cat (http://www.aracnet.com/~jowen/Jen/Photos/Cats/Ginger.jpg)when I was growing up, she died just short of 25 years old. So to me, Ginger is a cat's name.
-I can see the "stripper" association too. It just has kind of that sassy, sexy feel to it. But I wouldn't really worry that much about this.

I definitely think of Ginger Rogers first, then Ginger Spice. I also think of the "baby" I had to take care of in middle school, I named mine Ginger Calypso, now that sounds like a stripper. I think if you named your daughter Ginger it would be fine, people's impressions of a name can change and your Ginger would be who they would associate with the name.

I think Ginger from Gilligan's Island.

Well, that and my dog... I can't hear the name now without thinking of a lazy ol' basset hound.

I think Ginger is a sassy and cute name to use. Maybe better used as a middle name, but you could always call her Ginger anyhow.

i HATE it.
For some reason it's almost embarassing to be ginger nowadays. (hair colour) I know thats silly but it's almost a derogatory term.. ridiculous i know.
Anyhow, i think it's really ugly & not femnine/pretty... nothing good about it. If my name was Ginger i'd change it.

I don't have any associations with other people called Ginger because i don't know anyone with that name, and I don't know who the famous people with that name are.

It sounds like a pet's name to me. I've known a ginger tabby cat called Ginger. I think that is the reason why people think of it as a stripper name - pet names sound like stripper names, like misty, smoky, sootie, soxy, fifi, etc... (can't think of good examples but you get my drift)

So in that sense, I don't think I personally like Ginger as a full name because it doesn't sound like it belongs on a human adult. But it does have meaning for you, and at least it's not a bizarre unpronouncable thing that nobody will remember.

I have a friend named Ginger, so that's the first person I think of. fwiw, she hated her name throughout her whole childhood and only grew to like it as an adult. but then, more people had normal names back then. name a kid Ginger now and she'll just be greatful she's not a makenzie or makayla or Jaeda or some other dumb name.

so so on it. don't love or hate it. isn't there a kid's show out there with a main character named Ginger? makes me think of Gilligan's Island a bit.
