Jul. 23rd, 2006 09:58 pmA few things:
1. Are there any names that are traditionally one sex that you ONLY like for the other?
- Jordan - I HATE it as a boy's name, but it's one of my favorites for girls
- Casey - I hate it as a boy's name, but I like it as a girl's
- Ashley/Kelly - I hate them as girl's names, but I like them for boys (but I'd never use them, because they've been 'feminine' for so long that a boy would probably be picked on, even though they are both unisex)
- Max - the idea of 'Max' whether as a nn or a full name for a girl just totally weirds me out, but I love it for boys
ETA:
- Brady - I like it as a GIRLS' name, but as a boys'. I knew both a boy and a girl in high school with this name and I thought it fit the girl so much better than the boy.
2. Another thing: are there any names that you hadn't really considered before, but after reading a book or watching a TV show where one of your favorite characters was named that name, you suddenly liked it?
Olivia - It was always one of my favorites, but I never really thought about naming one of my kids this. Then I started watching Law & Order: SVU and I completely fell in love with the main character. My love for the name (which was already immense) grew and now it's my #2 name. Not really AFTER the character, but there are definitely some traits I'd love for my future daughter to have.
Siddalee - I NEVER would have considered this name, but when I read The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, I completely fell in love with the character. I still wouldn't use the name, but I do have a soft spot for it. Same with Baylor, Talulah (Lulu), and Shep.
Victoria - I used to hate this name, but not only did I fall for the nn Vix when I read Summer Sisters, but I also fell in love with the idea of this name for a girl. I'd never use it because I hate the name Vicky and that's the one people would use.
Carrie - Sex and the City made me fall in love with it. I also really like the idea of using it in honor of Carrie Chapman Catt, one of the leaders of the suffragist movement. I probably won't use it, but I do love it.
Miranda - I had never thought of using this name before, but again, Sex and the City made me fall in love with it.
Danielle - I used to HATE this name with a passion and I don't even know why. I especially hated the nn Dani for a girl. But then one of my friends used it in a fanfic she wrote and I totally fell in love with it. I don't even know why, but it's very rapidly moved up on my list of names. I think it's now fighting with Jordan, Miranda, and Amelia for my #3 spot.
ETA:
Atticus - I can't believe I forgot this one!!! It's my #2 choice for a middle name (after Michael) and I LOVE it. I never would have considered it until I read To Kill a Mockingbird.
There are more, I know, but those are the ones that really made an impression on me. :)

Date: 2006-07-24 04:26 am (UTC)I didn't really think Charlotte was that uptight. She seemed pretty normal to me. I know what you mean, and occasionally she would have a line that projected she was an uptight priss. But then the next episode she'd be pretending she was 27 and sleeping with random guys at the beach. I guess I notice her more carefree moments because I was partial to her. I thought she was the nicest and most sincere of the four.
Carrie annoyed me because she was always interrupting conversations to bring them back to herself. She was very self-centered. And when she cheated on Aidan, she lost me altogether. Yuck.
