What are your opinions on the name Avery for a girl?

I honestly NEVER knew this was originally a boy's name. The first and only time I ever heard it, it was used on a girl (about ten years ago) and I always just figured it was a girl's name. So to me it sounds very feminine and not masculine at all.

I normally HATE boy's names on girls. I hate Riley, Peyton, Harley (not that I even consider that a name, but still...), Madison, Mackenzie, etc., and I feel like I shouldn't like Avery, but I do. I don't know if I could ever use it though, because... well, I don't want a little girl with a boy's name.

Is naming a girl Avery like naming a girl Leslie or Kelly or Shannon (almost completely gone to the girls)? Or like naming a girl Riley or Peyton (kinda in the middle, now socially deemed okay for either sex)? Or like naming a girl Ethan or Allan or Ryan (almost completely still thought of as boy's names. yes I know, half of you know girls named Ryan and its so super cool and cute and they adore their names, but to society at large, Ryan is still very much a boy's name, I think)?

Ahhh I'm conflicted.

If you hate Avery for a girl is it because it's traditionally a male name?

I've actually never met anyone with this name.. but I'd guess it to be equivalent to Ashley, in terms of unisexness. As in, everyone knows it's technically both, and know of men with the name, but probably would fear naming a boy that nowadays because of all the girls with the name.

I'm not too sure though.
