when my aunt was pregnant, she and her husband didn't want to know the gender, and they didn't share their unborn child's name options with anyone. when i asked, i was answered "if it's a boy, we'll name him giligan and if it's a girl, she'll be ginger." (of course, i was at the age where i wasn't sure i should believe them or not, haha). they would also say that the girl would be velvet and a boy would be corduroy.

if you were trying to be secretive about names, what would you "name" your children?

(ps, they now have two daughters, blaire and jenna. their middle names are not ginger or velvet ;) )

my sister's in the same boat- almost due -without knowing the sex or sharing name options(so annoying for me)
she told my daughter the baby's name was Candy
now my 4 year old refers to this unborn baby as "my cousin Candy" as if it is for real

When I was pregnant, we called our little one Bean. And when people asked if it was a boy or a girl, we would answer, "well, it' a Bean..."

First off, I hate when people don't tell their name choices to family members. My husband's side of the family does this and it drives me nuts! I'm just interested in the thing growing inside you, I won't be stealing your name! No one else is pregnant here! Anyway.... With that said, we're hoping for 1 more baby here someday soonish and I've decided to not find out the sex and do the same to them and not tell names. Our last name is Collins so we'll be going with Collin and Colleen, hehe.

It could be less about the fear of "stolen" names than averting obnoxious opinions -- we waited until we had a certain name for both genders before telling, so that we didn't open ourselves up to "advice".

We don't tell people our name choices. It stirred up too much drama with our firstborn when I shared my short list with my sisters. My family then decided to nickname the baby. They called him "Anchor" (I don't know, one of my sisters came up with it). His name is Micah. I'm pregnant with twins and we're not sharing again, after some more name drama with a sister who immediately gave me a list of names I "can't" use, so my mom and in-laws are referring to them as Baby Ace (my FIL's name) and Baby Barbara (my mom's name) since twins get labeled "Baby A" and "Baby B" at the doctor's office. :P

Realistically I'd probably call them Little Boob or Little Moob. My nickname is Boob and I call a lot of people boobs or moobs (man boob). It started in high school and has progressed to this... ;-)

And since I am obsessed with Bones, I could also go with Temperance and Seeley, although I plan on naming my next cat Temperance, so it probably wouldn't work.

I know a lot of people who have called their unborn children "Peanut" or "Jellybean" even after they knew the name, just to keep it a secret.

I think if I were to be questioned about my child's name and I didn't want to reveal it, I would definitely say "Melissa Jr." for a girl. I don't know what I would say for a boy. Maybe Kal-El or Jor-El.

Whenever we talk baby names my boyfriend immediately goes to silly names. I joke that we're going to have 11 kids (a soccer team!) and some of the names we jokingly use are:
Seven, Eleven, Pie, Pizza, Cotton, Bart, Bert, Ernie, Elmo, Charlie Bucket and McMac

And because his name (Aaron) sound so close to his mother's name (Sharron) we also joke our firstborn will be named Zaron or Baron.

I never kept names secret, but when my parents threw a fit over my oldest's name... Tristan... we said we'd decided on a different name. Ebeneezer Nebuchadnezzar and we'd call him Ebbie Nebbie for short. They backed down on the name Tristan:P

When my sister was pregnant, she and her husband called their unborn peanut. They didn't have a name locked down for a long time, so for a little while we thought it might stick. (not really haha) It was really cute, though. Peanut is now Gianna Camille <3
