Opinions?

Can I ask your opinions on two names? I'm someone who always wanted normal names for my kids, but I'm stuck on two names right now that are a bit out of the norm.

Last name is Whittaker.

For a boy: Jareth

For a girl: Tuesday

Jareth was jokingly suggested by a friend, but when I saw it written out, I liked it, and so did my husband. I KNOW it's the name of David Bowie's character in Labyrinth. But, it looked close enough to Jared that I thought we might get away with it.

Tuesday is a name that my husband ALWAYS wanted for a baby girl. He didn't use it for his first daughter, and initially I was against it because I just assumed she'd be teased, but now, I'm actually really starting to like it.

So, thoughts, please. I'd like to know if I'm being totally nuts and unfair to my future child. (We find out in 4 weeks if it's a boy or girl).

Jareth sounds like you have a lisp. Jareth Whittaker is kind of difficult to say, at least for me.

Tuesday is pretty nice. It's weird without being too strange. I like Tuesday Whittaker.

I like Tuesday but kind of hate Jareth. I agree about it sounding lispy.

I agree with the others. Why not Jared? Tuesday is nice though!

Jarret? I saw one of those at Church this morning.

I'm kind of nuetral on Jareth, but with your last name it does seem like a tongue twister -- I'm inclined to say, "Jareth Whithaker" instead of "Jareth Whittaker."

Tuesday reminds me of Wednesday, a la Wednesday Addams. But most people probably wouldn't immediately have that association. I think if you paired it with a really great classic middle name, it could definitely work.

I like Tuesday, but Jareth rubs me the wrong way. How about Jared or Garrett?

[identity profile] cremepuff.livejournal.com 2010-09-16 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Jareth is alright, but people would probably always be mispronouncing it as Jarett. If you can tolerate that, then go for it!

Tuesday's not my style.

[identity profile] duckduckcaboose.livejournal.com 2010-09-16 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually like both Jareth (mainly because of the DB association) and Tuesday.

[identity profile] arrien.livejournal.com 2010-09-16 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Tuesday is not my style and Jareth makes me feel like I have a lisp.

I like Jareth okay though it's not my style. When I hear Tuesday all I think of is Tuesday Adams from The Adams Family. Though that is the kind of thing I think people would get over pretty fast once they actually knew a Tuesday. I think both sound just fine with the last name!

[identity profile] tiarrajanae.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Wednesday Addams.

As everyone as said, Jareth Whittaker is a mouthful. What about Jarvis?

Tuesday is cute.

My little cousin is actually named Tuesday. She's a twin and her twin's name is Taylor. I think the name is unique yet classy. Whenever I say my cousin's name I get funny looks, but if paired with a good middle name it's nice.

Jareth, don't really care for. It's just not my style, I guess. But I like Gareth, though they're not really the same thing.

Tuesday, I LOVE. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I really want to use it.

[identity profile] twitchywoman.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I have a cousin named Tuesday. I like the name personally. Initially my family thought the name was weird, but we all accepted it. I couldn't tell you if Tuesday ever gets teased about it though as I have only seen her three times since she was born.

Jareth: I agree with the others, it's kind of lispy.
Tuesday: Not horrible, but not my style. I keep picturing Wednesday Addams, haha.

[identity profile] kaoriz.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I love Tuesday.

[identity profile] lilacmermaid.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a huge fan of Jareth, I would like Jared better. But it's not awful. I really like Tuesday, though! I know somebody with this name, and I thought it was kind of funny at first, but it's really grown on me.

[identity profile] erikalyn.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with the lisp comments. What about Jarom (pronounced JEHR-um)?

As for Tuesday, I'm not a big fan of "word names," but to each their own.

[identity profile] patsfan610.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
i like Jareth because of The Labyrinth, but i agree it sounds like Jared with a lisp
Tuesday is nice :)

[identity profile] coffeecup37.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Jareth is ok and I think it would be fine/not too different, plus it works with your surname. It's not my 'cup of tea', but I don't dislike it.

Tuesday, on the other hand, I personally dislike, probably because I dislike all day-of-the-week/month names. That being said, it's not horrible and, objectively, I think it's fine and works well with your surname. Would you have a nn for her? If so, what would you use (out of interest, as I can't think of any nn for Tuesday, haha)?

Congratulations, btw. :)

[identity profile] sailorgarnet.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally thought you were kidding about Jareth. I love you, but I don't like Jareth, as a child of the '80s I will ALWAYS think of David Bowie. What about Gareth? I love that name.

[identity profile] sailorgarnet.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That being said, I know I'm going to love this baby no matter what you name him or her, and the name will fit. :)

[identity profile] sailorgarnet.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
oooo, going now. I was actually surprised to see you on baby names (I'm avoiding finishing my presentation for Journal Club which is in...oh 40 minutes lol)

[identity profile] sailorgarnet.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear, picking out names was the hardest part of expecting. There were emotional things that hurt more, but the name was the hardest choices to make.

[identity profile] mossmade.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Jareth is our "guilty-pleasure" boy name.
Not sure if we'll ever use it, but it sure is fun.
We quite like Gareth as well.

[identity profile] corielcries.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Tuesday! My cat is Wednesday, and we sometimes call her "Daya" which is a nickname I think would work for Tuesday, too.

[identity profile] nothingtolose19.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually like both, surprisingly. Jareth seems cool. Tuesday is not normally a name that I would like, but it's growing on me. When I first heard it I was like O.o COME AGAIN?! but I'd rather that than Bryttyne (I sadly did not just make that up. It's a girl that went to my high school, though I had to look her up on facebook to check how to spell it. And no, it's not just how she has her name on fb, because I remember I had a class with her and the first time the teacher tried to read her name, his eyes bugged out ahaha).

/random.

How about Jarret?
