Jul. 16th, 2006 10:10 pm1. So, you know on Alice in Wonderland, her cat's name is Dinah (Dye-nuh). Is that how you spell it? Or is Dinah pronounced like Dee-nah? How about Dena or Dina? Are all of these pronounced Dee-nuh? And once you get the right spelling for DYE-nuh, does it sound like you're saying "diner" with a British accent, or does it actually sound like a name?
2. Which of these is better, if any (for someone hoping to get the nickname "Kes" out of it):
Kes
Kessa
Kesana / Kesanna
Kesandra / Kessandra
Kesandria / Kesandrea or Kessandria / Kessandrea
3. Is Anice or Annis too close to "anus" to be a good name?
4. How would you pronounce Evalena? I'm thinking ehv-ah-LEE-nuh, but maybe the first letter says eee instead of eh.
5. How about Adeline? ah-dah-lynn, ah-dah-leen, or ah-dah-line (line as in clothes line)? It isn't a terribly common name, but it's very close to Madeline. Like Addison to Madison. I think I'd avoid using either of those, just because they are so close to a popular name. (well, Addison is #107 for 2005, so still popular, but no where near as popular as Madison is).

Date: 2006-07-17 03:44 pm (UTC)1. Dinah is dye-nah as far as I know and Dina is dee-nah (and I would assume Dena would be be dee-nah as well, but I don't know anyone with it spelled that way)
2. I'm really not sure about any of those because they all seem really odd to me (which is not necessarily a bad thing). My only thing would be that most of that last row could be easily confused with Cassandra (or any other spelling of that name)
3. I think it is. I don't go crazy trying to think of ways my (future) children could be made fun of for their names, but that just screams bad idea to me.
4. I would think eh-vah-LEE-nuh which is really close to what you have and may end up sounding the same.
5. ad-ah-line is how I've always heard it pronounced.
