[identity profile] stacilia.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So, for the past four weeks, I had decided that I wanted to name my upcoming little girl, Ava Isabella. Now, I know everyone is going to say "ava is so overused, etc", but I live in a very, very small town, and I don't know of a single Ava here. However, I've recently also fell in love with two other names. Evangeline and Adeline. *Squinches eyes shut* I already told everyone I was going to name her Ava, but now I can't decide!! I really like all three of these names. I'm also having trouble with the middle name. I want to name her Isabelle or Isabella (thats the only stipulation that the father had..he wanted her named after his grandmother if possible...) Which sounds better? I need your help girls! Else, I'll go nuts trying to decide what to name her. Would it be considered bad taste to change what I was going to name her, or should it not really matter, since its my baby? What combination would you use with the names provided? Help!

Other people lash out in this community when people suggest names that are "cutesy" or "popular". I understand you did not, and I apologize for that. It just irks me. I could understand with names like Ashley, or Brittany, or such like that. But if you name your kid something that you like, even if it is Brittany or Ashley, why should anyone interfere and say, "well, what if it's popular in 20 years?"

I had people tell me stuff like that when I was pregnant with my daughter, and she died. So she never got to experience "embarrassment" from a possibly "popular" name growing up.

she's not saying it WILL be popular in 20 years. she's saying it IS popular now, and when/if the child leaves the town in 20 years, she will encounter a lot of people her age with her same name...

being named Sarah, i understand this concept. i have always hated my name and how many sarah's there are EVERYWHERE. i can't even call friends on the phone without having to give my last name, because they might have any number of Sarahs calling them. it's very annoying. i'm deal with having a very common name nearly every day, and i'm 25.

Yeah well my name's Elizabeth, and that name has been popular and used for how long? I know how it's like having a popular name, but it's never once "embarrassed" me or made me uncomfortable. My mother in law is named Elizabeth, as well as her mother and grandmother. I don't find it annoying or a hassle, it's just a name.
