In your opinion, is "Bear" a suitable nickname for a boy with the name Theodore? 
(The thought process being Theodore -> Teddy -> Teddy Bear -> Bear)

I've got a distant relative who's husband is Edward, but who always goes by Bear. In fact I didn't even know that wasn't his real name until a few days ago. Same logic. It fits him really well.
