I'm 8 weeks pregnant with our second child, & my husband & I have been trying to figure out some names. My husband really likes Zoe; it's okay, but I don't love it.

If it's a girl, we've almost decided on Emery Jean (Jean is my grandma's name & I like the way the name sounds; it sounds classic to me). For a boy, we like Avery, but our first son is Aiden & I always get a little weirded out when families do alliterations. I'm pretty set on using Jean as a middle name & I don't think Zoe flows with it as well as Emery. If we go with Zoe, I think we might use Rose as a middle name--my husband's grandma.

We don't have any middle names picked out for boys. Our first son's middle name is Taylor--my husband's first name--so I wouldn't know where to go with that.

Also, my husband thinks we should use Emery Gene if it's a boy. I don't see Emery as a boy name at all.

WDYT?

My daughter's bff is a boy named Emery. I think it can work, and its kind of androgenous.
I kind of agree with you on using the same letter for both siblings names. I blame the duggars for making me feel that way...

I'm not a huge fan of Emery as either, but I like the flow of Emery Jean. I'm not so bothered by using the same letter for siblings, but I also like the name Avery :)

I'm not bothered by alliterations, unless it is someone who decides, "Okay, YES, all the kids MUST have A names!"

My husband and I are both A's, and it just so happens that the two other girl names we like start with A's, too, except for the name we're naming our in utero daughter! None of the boy names we like start with A, though.

I think Emery can be a cute name for both :) And I LOVE Avery :)

LOL yeah, I used A because it led into my next point about my own situation, plus it tied in with the OP's worry :)

Oh goodness, I know. I just like to point out the insanity of the Duggar family EVERY CHANCE I GET!! Does that make me evil?

Haha, I don't think you're evil, so don't worry ;)

Personally, for me, Emery is definitely not a girl's name. But maybe I'm just weird.

Same. Emery is a boys name to me.

Not weird. =) It's a boy's name to me, too.

I think I actually see Emery as a boy's name, not a girl's. But I really love the look/sound of Emery Jean. I like Zoe too, but I agree that Zoe Jean doesn't sound as good. I don't like Emery Gene at all. I do like Avery on a boy.

I actually see Emery as a boys' name and not a girls' name. I think Zoe Jean is really cute - it flows fine to me. I think I like the flow of Zoe Jean better than Emery Jean, personally.

I don't think Aidan and Avery are too close, and since you're not specifically picking them to go with a theme I don't think it's a big deal. My sister and I both have M names and my brother doesn't, and I know a sibset of Emma, Elijah, and Luke.

I think Emery can go masculine or feminine... :-) My great-grandfather was Emery and my cousin's female daughter is Emery and it fits/fit them both!

Emery just makes me think of emery boards, which makes my teeth ache (like fingernails on a blackboard feeling). But it's definitely one of those unisex names that's going to slide over to the girl category in the next decade or two.

I really like Zoe, and I think Zoe Jean is a really nice name.

Emery on a girl just sounds like someone can't say Emily. I think Emery works much better on a boy. I also like the name Emerson, for which Emery could be a nickname.

As far as using Gene for a boy's middle, I don't know. Aiden Taylor is so modern sounding, and Emery Gene sounds more dated. I think Emerson Avery would go well with Aiden Taylor.

To me, Emery is definitely male. I don't particularly like it, but Emery Gene is okay overall...
