Jul. 20th, 2010 05:02 pmI just realized that one of my friends on Facebook has a son named Anakyn.
WDYT?
Not being a Star Wars (?) fan myself, I kind of hate it. Especially for a boy, since it starts with "Ana". But what do I know?

Date: 2010-07-20 09:31 pm (UTC)That said, it's still pretty awful. Not because of the "Ana" beginning (Andrew starts in a similar way), but because it's pretty ridiculous to name your kid after Darth Vader.

Date: 2010-07-20 09:46 pm (UTC)I feel like I've posted my opinion about fandom names a bazillion times, but: Just because you like something (Star Wars, Star Trek, Superman, etc. etc.), does not mean that your child will. I think giving your child a name so explicitly tied to a specific fandom is wont to make your child hate said fandom. I am a huge Superman fan, and I might consider naming my child Clark, but I would never name him Kal-El like Nicolas Cage did.

Date: 2010-07-21 01:31 am (UTC)Personally, I always find y's to be more feminine (not to say there aren't masculine names with y's), and I don't think it hides the fandomness of the name any.
