I just realized that one of my friends on Facebook has a son named Anakyn.

WDYT?

Not being a Star Wars (?) fan myself, I kind of hate it. Especially for a boy, since it starts with "Ana". But what do I know?

I actually recently posted about a Facebook friend of mine who also had a son and named him Anakin. I personally think it's a little much. When a name is soooooooo attached to a very specific pop culture reference, I couldn't use it.

I actually am a huge Star Wars geek... and would never name a child Luke, Leia or Anakin for that reason. I do like the names but my fandom... won¿'t allow me to do it with a clear conscience.

lol - i like it, but then again i've never even seen star wars and i wouldn't have made the star wars reference if it wasn't mentioned :)

i would use Anakin w/the nn Kenny

I'd be much more okay with it if they spelled it correctly (Anakin).

That said, it's still pretty awful. Not because of the "Ana" beginning (Andrew starts in a similar way), but because it's pretty ridiculous to name your kid after Darth Vader.

I think it's over the top. I agree with you about the "Ana" beginning for a boy (and coupled with the unnecessary y?). Plus, it's just such a specific reference. It's not like naming your child something that can be vaguely reference, like Harry.

No. Fandom name + trendy "y" = BAD!

I feel like I've posted my opinion about fandom names a bazillion times, but: Just because you like something (Star Wars, Star Trek, Superman, etc. etc.), does not mean that your child will. I think giving your child a name so explicitly tied to a specific fandom is wont to make your child hate said fandom. I am a huge Superman fan, and I might consider naming my child Clark, but I would never name him Kal-El like Nicolas Cage did.

If you're gonna name your son Anakin, at least spell it right. Anakyn just looks so feminine to me.

I like Star Wars, but... It's a bit much; the reference is too obvious.
Even without the reference, I don't like it; I don't like the way it sounds. (I don't like this spelling either.)

I'd probably get over it if it were spelled correctly.

Horrible name and they didn't even spell it correctly, if a made-up name has a correct spelling. The poor kid will be teased mercilessly. :/

I'm not a fan either, but I kind of like the name if it's spelled Anakin. I'm anti random Ys. I don't think I'd use it, though.

Yep, the superfluous y makes it look like a trendy girl's name. Ick.

Well, they spelled it wrong. Only thing about it that bothers me. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but I like that character enough, if I was with a guy who suggested that name, I would completely go for it.

I'll admit, I didn't think anything until I pronounced it. Then it made me smile. Oh fandom names :).

Personally, I always find y's to be more feminine (not to say there aren't masculine names with y's), and I don't think it hides the fandomness of the name any.
