[identity profile] salomeshymn.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My two year old daughter's name is Valerie.  We want to let her name her baby sister.  She says her baby sister's name is "Deedee".  Like "baby", except she doesn't say "b"s very well so they sound like "d"s.  And obviously she hasn't spelled it out for us, so it could be spelled in all kinds of variations of that.
I also want my new baby to grow up to have a name she likes.
I'd like it to be a name that sounds nice with "Valerie" when I call to them both in the playground.
I've tried asking a few close friends and family for their feedback about this, about naming our baby "Deedee" or if they can think of anything similar that would leave us able to say that Valerie named her sister, but that would also be a real, beautiful name in it's own right.  Everyone I talk to seems afraid to give me any feedback at all, like nothing I suggested could be bad even if it really is a terrible choice.
So here I am asking complete strangers who have nothing to lose in insulting me.
Please share some honest, fearless feedback with me? Ideas?

What about Deirdre (pronounced Deer-dra) DeeDee could be a nickname.

My first thought was Deirdre as well.

I know a couple of girls named Drenda as well, if that floats your boat.
