What names do you love that you can't or won't consider because it just doesn't work with your last name?

For me it's:
Alice
Lucy
Sylvia

Silas
Simon
Jonas

My last name is 2 syllables that starts and ends in S.
I'm sure I can't be the only one with a list of loved, but unuseable names!

My maiden name is Pielecha, which rhymes with Rebecca so our ongoing joke was that one of us girls should have been named that, and it wound up being a nickname for me. So I used it (with the traditional Biblical spelling of Rebekah) for my daughter's middle name.

My married name is Sauter. This has ruined my ability to use Seth, which I adore. It's a lisping person's nightmare to say. I also had originally planned my whole life to have a son named Peter, after my grandfather, but I feel Peter Sauter just sound ridiculous. Other people have argued that point with me, but if it bugs me, that's all that matters. Other -er names have been ruled out, as well.

And I sadly felt I needed to take Alice off our girl list because I don't like how the "s" sound at the end of it runs into the "s" sound at the beginning of the last name. One friend pointed out that it sounded like Allosaur, as in the dinosaur and I had to unfortunately agree. Interestingly enough, Beatrice has a similar ending and is my top choice, but that doesn't bother me because it ends more sharply than Alice does, which I feel has a longer "s" sound at the end.

our last name is Doherty, so the names we tell people we're considering when we're pregnant (but would never use, really) include Dorothy, Dudley, Isidore, Isidora... but I wouldn't say we love these names or anything. we just joke about them :)

I love the idea of telling people fake names like that. Folks are so nosy about names and then have ridiculous opinions if you tell them ahead of time. We just keep our mouths shut, but I like the fake name idea even better.
