I see a frazzled older woman, not very smart or pretty, kind of neurotic. I don't know why, I've never known anyone with the name, but I have a very distinct negative feeling toward it.

Alternately, a cross-eyed idiot of a cat in a book I read. The cat was a sweetheart, in her cross-eyed idiot kind of way, but I remember really hating the woman who named her Freya... come to think of it, she matches the description above, so I may have just solved my own mystery.
