[identity profile] pinkysmith.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
A blog I read had a post about the most popular names of 2010 so far so I'm posting the links to the lists below for discussion:

Nameberry's Top 100 Boys' Names So Far
Nameberry's Top 100 Girls' Names So Far
Top 100 Most Unusual Names So Far (not Nameberry)

Personally I don't find many of the "most unusual names" so unusual as in they're not real names but Haitian (b) is an interesting 2010 name...

BTW here's the blog i got the links from. So far there are 66 comments with people's kids' names and requests not to steal.

I like more names from the unusual names list (although many are indeed not that unusual) than the normal girl's list!
I like many of the boy's Nameberry top 100, though. Literally almost all my favorites are on there. Oh well!

I don't get Haitian. I mean...I would find naming someone 'American' or 'Chinese' equally ridiculous, but why name someone after the inhabitant of a country that has an unusually miserable history?

Haitian is a character in Heroes? I've never watched a single Heroes episode in my life.
I suppose most people will still associate it with the country, though.

Well, it's "The Hatian." I'm grasping at straws really. I don't get it. But, I guess it makes as much sense as Christian or America.

Wow that list had my top pick (Cecilia/Celia) and that NEVER makes top lists!

All my kids are on the list and even our left over boy name is. But I really don't care...it would be impossible for me to have named my kids anything but what is fairly popular. Must just be the generation that's having kids right now because Every single name I like ends up being fairly popular that year and, especially with my son, I'd picked his name YEARS in advance, who knows why it ended up so popular the year I had him!

HAH! Neither our top boy nor girl are on the 100 list. They're both on the "unusual" list.

Lyra and Søren

I think it's good that some of these more obscure names are climbing in popularity. It will give the next generation new names to pick from or new names to hate. Either way, we're refreshing the pool.

Lie-rah

It's funny because I've always disliked the Laura-type names, but this one I like.

I think no matter how high Sophia is, I'd still use it (that's the plan for this baby if it's a girl). I think it is beautiful, so regardless...

I like a lot of the names, but also am surprised at many of them. But I only glanced through in the first place.
