I think I can safely say I hate every name on that list. First and middle.

Especially "Dresdin" and "Sylvan"

Way to name your children after a city that got bomed to pieces and a learning center...

I kind of like Boston. I could se it as a middle name if it meant something to me. It doesn't though, as I'm from the NW, so don't worry.

I hate all the names except Jemma, which I have always adored.

Taylee is awful.

Ack. I don't even know where to start.

1. The ever-growing family of -aden/aiden names has some cousins: the alen/aylin/aelin family. Aaaaaah!!!

2. Since when is Y such a popular letter of the alphabet?

3. Can someone explain to me why mispelled places make good names (Dresdin, Brookelyn, Londyn from the previous post)

4. Are Mycole and Ceceilia typos, or is there something darker and more sinister going on here?

5. Would anyone who is over the age of 14 actually want their name to end with -ee? (unless it's Lee?)

6. How the f do you pronounce Baleigh and Adalye? Why?

Thank you for posting this. It's mind-boggling.

hehe.. I think Brookelyn pissed me off the most.

2. Well, because a Y is only "sometimes" a vowel, it makes it completely irresistable. I mean, Is Chrystyn a name, or just a bunch of letters? We don't know, but that kid MUST be unique! Blech. Whoever decided that all vowels can be replaced with Y needs to be shot. Yf thyry wys ny pyynt ty vywls, wy wyyldn't hyve thym yt yll. Dyh.

well, ancient hebrew didn't have vowels, and they made it work. ;)

I doubt any of these tryndees know a thing about ancient Hebrew. Anyone willing to name their child Alyx or Sylvan is not deserving of such credit!

Sylvan is a real name, or at least has real etymogogical roots, even if it isn't normally used as a name. Think Pennsylvania--woods.

From: [identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com
Er sorry but when I see Sylvan, I think Learning Center, not Pennsylvania.

sylvan means forest. but, i wouldn't name my kid forest either (and that is considered a legitamate name). :/

From: [identity profile] sayga.livejournal.com
yeah, but their verbs were set up so the letter order changed so you knew which conjugation they were using. and the vowels are implied anyway, because you *can't* pronnounce a word (any word) without a vowel sound. :)

So I started reading this list before I read the paragraph before it and I got about half way through the boy's list and I was thinking "oh honey.. you enjoy some terrible names" and then I decided to read from the top and I'm torn between whether I'm relieved that these arent names YOU like or saddened that they're names that actual PEOPLE have now been named=\

They're ALL horrible! If the first name isnt complete crap then they ruined it with a crap middle name, but the majority have just a whole suck name!

some of the names I really like (Anya, Jemma...) but for the most part, damn, those are very ugly names

From: [identity profile] secret-x-stars.livejournal.com
ahhh shit i was going to say 'i kind of like Sylvan, though!' and then i saw it was in the girl list.

*facepalm*

Astrid's nice, but wtf is Alely? it reminds me of 'allele,' like the thing in genetics...

otherwise, i hate the generation naming these babies.

Many of those make me wanna puke. :X
Like Baleigh. NOOOOOO, please!!!! I could grit my teeth and accept Bailey is you HAD to choose it, but BALEIGH?!? ::dies::

There are only a couple that I actually DO like--such as Anya.
But they keep getting spoiled with bad middle names that make me wonder 'WTF is that?'
And who in their right mind would put a "Freak" t-shirt on a baby..? What's the world coming to? Wait, I don't wanna know.

Kyerin looks cool but do you pronnounce it like Karen? Poor boy, named Karen.

I don't mind Caleb, but Kalob looks like a horse sound. Klip Kalob Klip Kalob...

And Taylee? Ew! Baleigh too. That just looks wrong. Leigh is fine by itself, but the -eigh shouldn't be put on any other word.

I agree with the Caleb thing. I was thinking, Kah-lahb?

I think its like Kieran.

I can't believe Aiden is already getting creative spellings. Adyn? That's just wrong. Also, all those random y's in the boy names make them look super-feminine.

Date: 2006-07-07 04:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com
Adyn and Adin are my least favorite spellings of Aidan. They look so incomplete and blech.

From: [identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com
Which one is the original original? Aiden or Aidan?

Date: 2006-07-07 08:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hitzpink.livejournal.com
You know what, I think the original spelling is Aidan. Yikes that means I used a creative spelling in my original comment! Well, at least it's not as bad as Adyn. ;)

Most are awful, but I do love Astrid (White Oleandor!), always have.

I agree completely... it's such a beautiful name, but it was ruined :(!

Although I really don't like the name Aidan, I think Aidan Patrick is a very nice combination.

For some reason, I really like the name Astrid. It wouldn't be something I'd chose for my child, but it's definitely pretty.

Jazper? Every time I hear that name it reminds me of old men.

Kalob? Poor kid.

Dresdin is a name I've never heard of before. I really like it.

I'm with you, I think Anya is rather cute.

Dresdin is a name I've never heard of before.

Because it's not a name, at least not for people. It's a misspelling of a city in Germany that was nearly completely destroyed in World War II.

Wow, a LOT of people in here like the name Astrid. All I can think of when I hear that is Ass Tread. Or Asterisk. :P

Those are great!! And most of them are quite similar to the "original" names the parents chose... perfect substitutions.

Baylen!! Wow!! Combining trendy Bailey with trendy Aiden/Jaden/Caden/etc. It was definitely coming sooner or later. Oh and there's a Daelin. Way to get the D in the -den trend too! Impressive.

The only name I like on that list is Astrid. I adore that name.

Hey! What about Daedyn? It has all you want in a tryndee made-up name!! Including the crucial Y!!

Asa Bridget surprised me, but I really like it! And I love baby clothes that are anti-sweet like that. : D

From: [identity profile] mooselet.livejournal.com
I think that's what surprised me about it. I know it as a boy's name too, and typically I don't like giving names to the "wrong" gender. But Asa is so seldom used that it works very well for a girl.

Date: 2006-07-07 04:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com
It can be a girl's name, but it's pronounced differently (I've spent some time in Norway where it's used). It doesn't even begin with an A, but an A with a circle over it, which is pronounced "Aw", like the sound in "paw". So you'd pronounce the name AW-suh. The right way to transliterate the A-with-a-circle-on-top is with a double A - Aasa. I doubt the parents were thinking of the Norse name! But who knows. Bridget has vaguely Scandinavian connections, so they might have been going for that.

Oh, I just checked back on behinthename.com and you can see the correct letter there.

(I feel like such a nerd. sorry for the lecture, but I find all this so geekily fun.)

I just can't imagine how most of those children will carry those names when they are adults.
