if you were going to name your daughter some variation of margo, how would you spell it?

margot. it's the first way i saw the name in a beautiful short story by ray bradbury. margot is first in my book by far, but if i had to choose a runner up, it'd be margeaux.

Margot.

Here, the stress on the name is different for Margot and Margo. Margo is MAR-go, while Margot is Mar-GO. And I definitely prefer the latter.

I never would have thought this name would cause so much bickering on here...

I prefer the spelling Margot--like many others, I think it looks more complete than Margo. Margo would be first runner-up, Margeaux would be second, and Margaux is the least likely to be used by me.

Margeaux looks more complete than Margaux, but they must all be considered legit spellings since my spell checker is not underlining them. Just a thought.

Margeaux. No, I do not mean Margaux.

I'm so baffled as to why people would throw in an extra "e"! The name is already unusual enough in spelling for English-speakers, it doesn't need more letters. And as it comes from an actual French word, why start spelling THAT wrong now?

I had to pop in to say... "eaux" is the Cajun spelling of any French word that would normally end in "aux".
