Is Tess a nickname for anything other than Theresa? I love Tess, but I'm not fond of Theresa (no offense to anyone).

Can Tess stand on its own? Would it age well?

I'm leaning toward making it middle name potential only just because I'm unsure if it can stand by itself.

Thanks in advance!

I have a friend named Tessa. I've never heard Tess for Theresa actually. I don't see what it couldn't stand on its own tho.

Exactly what I was going to say.

I've heard Tess by itself a few times. I would consider it a standalone name but I guess I could be wrong!

I prefer Tessa, but I think Tess can definitely stand on its own. The only Tess I've known IRL was ridiculously smart and accomplished, and it worked for her.

I knew a Tess who was a Theresa, one who was just Tess and one who was a Theodora.

I don't think Tess stands on its own very well at all. But why not use it as a nickname for Tessa?

The Tess[a] I knew was named Contessa.

I think Tess can stand on its own; it sounds pretty. :)

Ever watch Touched by an Angel? Tess can stand on her own all right. GOL! But seriously, the name is fine for a first name. It can definitely stand on its own. How about Tessa?

Touched by an Angel was the first thing I thought of, too. Personally, I think it's a very nice name. One that can age well, and that can stand on its own.

I think it can work as a name on its own. There was a Tess at my high school (middle name: Ann) and it fit her.

I''ve known a Tess (Teresa), a Tess (just plain Tess), and a Tess (Tessa). I think it is just fine on it's own.

One of my favorite girl names is Tempest...and my husband and I plan to use Tess for short. I also think it stands alone just fine. I honestly didn't even know it was a nickname for Teresa.

I vote for Tempest. I LOVE it.

Haha, thank you. :) The last time I posted it it wasn't too popular with most of the folks here, but I think it's one of those names you either love or hate because it has such strong connotations and is kind of hippy-dippy, besides.

It's nickname-y to me.

As a Tessa, I always feel sorry for girls or women just named Tess. I always have the option of going by Tess, but a Tess is locked into Tess without really being able to go by the full Tessa.

I think Tess works perfectly by itself.

I don't see the logic of using Tessa if you like Tess. There's only a one-letter difference. Yet if you DO like Tessa, you could call her that and still call her Tess...it just depends on whatever you prefer.

I think it's a fine name.

As for aging well, I think it'll do fine. I mean, people persist in naming their children Kyle, which is a name that doesn't work for anyone over 6.

I think it could totally stand alone :) I like Tessa more though, but Tess is nice enough.

I know a Therese that goes by Tess, I really like that but I also think it stands alone just fine.

Contessa! LOL

I like Tessa. Strangely enough, there was a woman in the nursing home with my great grandparents everyone called Tess...Turns out her name was Elizabeth. It was something about Elizabeth = Betsy = Tess. Can't vouch for the logic LOL

Actually I've heard of this too (Tess for Elizabeth).

I guess the logic flows the same way Molly can be a nickname for Mary. Nicknames were derived much differently a long time ago.

I always thought it was a name on its own.
