[identity profile] bree019.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Is anyone afraid to use a name because of the awful nicknames that come with it? I recently posted one of our (FI and my) favorite boy names, Henry, and received good feedback. Nicknames must be considered, however.

Harry is okay, but...eh. And Hank? God.

Any cute nicknames for Henry? Oh, and feel free to share your names (with not-so-wonderful nicknames) as well.

;D

Haha, I for one would never call a little boy "Hank", so don't worry about it...it seems really outdated to me.

I don't like Jim, but I sorta like James (I'd never use it as a fn, though, so it's not an issue). Although that's not really an "awful" nickname, just NMS.

I love Henry, though :).

Ha, it makes me think of my uncle who is DEFINITELY a hick ;)

James would be a mn for me, but that's it. I don't like it as much for a first name (too plain).

My brother's name is James, and he has never been called Jim. Only a few relatives wanted to call him Jim but my mum didn't let them. He's now 16 and nobody seems to have called him Jim (maybe they're all scared of my mum)

I'd do jamie for james. I like jamie on a boy but not so much on a girl.
