What are names that could have Maggie as a nickname? What do you think of Maggie as a given name?

Same questions with Tammy instead.

Thanks. =)

Magenta! lol just kidding...lol... I think Maggie as a given name is just fine!

I know a Magenta! But no one calls her Maggie.

Well...yeah...it is hard to think of middle names for Maggie! I was thinking oh that's simple! Then when I started going through names, they didn't sound right! hmm..
Maggie Sofia? I kind of like that...

I've never liked the name Maggie. It reminds me of fat cows, and not in a good way. The one Maggie I knew was a sweet girl (on the thin side, too, if that matters), fun-loving and very much a leader, but I don't find the name professional at all. It just grates on my ears. =\

I second Magdalene. I've taken a liking to that name. :)

Tammy - Tabitha (a stretch), Tamara, Thomasina, Tamarind

Saaame, on all of this. Had to laugh at the Betsy trio; I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't let go of that image. XD

I'd call Magdalene by her whole name, all the time. It's too beautiful to shorten.

My husband is stuck on Magdalena but with a Lena nickname.
I also like Magnolia and know one about 1 year old. It's really sweet.

I love Magdalena nn Lena. I know someone by this name

I knew a Michal who went by Maggie. I think it's fine as a given name, though, and I like it.

Tammy could be short for Tamara, Tamar, Tamsin, Tamora. I don't like it as a standalone, but I don't really like it as a nickname either.

My kitty is Magnolia and we call her Maggie for short.

Margot (kind of a stretch) too.

Margaret, Magda, Magdalena. I don't like it as a given name (but I do like it as a nickname for Margaret), though it could be worse.

Tamara? That's the only one I can think of. Tammy sounds so white trash to me.

I can't believe I didn't think of that. It's like the first and obvious suggestion, ha! I grew up with like 5 Megans who went by Maggie.

My cousin Maggie is actually Marguerite (which was my grandmother's name, and Maggie's mom/my aunt's middle name... my grandmother went by Peggy).

It's a nn for Margaret, so you could use it for many variants of that:
Magali
Mairead
Mared
Margaid
Margareta
Margarita
Marged
Margherita
Margit
Margot/Margaux
Margreet
Marguerite
Margery
Megan
Mererid

or also:
Magdalene
Magdalena
Magdalina
Madnhild
Magnolia
Marigold

Sorry for repeats.

Tamar
Tamara
Tamaya
Tamin
Thomasina

I used to have a friend who was Marjorie nn Maggie.
The first thing to come to my mind, though, was Megan... but I love the name Megan on its own so I wouldn't personally use Maggie as a nickname for it.

I know a few people who are just named Tammy/Tammie, not as a nickname for anything. I know it is a widely used nickname for Tamara. It could work for Thelma.

I have a friend named Megan who goes by Maggie or sometimes Meggie.

tammy is ew all around. not to mention insanely dated.

maggie is wonderful. it is our dearly departed cats name, but i love it and if she hadnt been named that (i didnt name her) i would have it on my list.

margaret
marguerite
magnolia
magda

i am torn about it being a full name. i think it should be a nickname.

I like Maggie as a nickname for Magda or Magdalene.

Tammy I could only see as a nickname for Tamara, Tamsin, or maybe even Thomasina. My aunt's name is Tammi, and it's not short for anything.

I love Thomasina, but could never think or anyting cute to shorten it to. Tammy is okay but not my fave.

i would shorten Thomasina to Tommi - i love "sounds like boy names but are really girl" names :)

I LOVE the name Marguerite, but would never use it for a first name because of PEG. I hate Peg/Peggy and if someone ever called Marguerite "Peg" I would die. LOL.
I just don't understand how you can get Peg from Margaret or Marguerite...idk. I think those names are too nice to shorten to something like Peg. Maggie on the other hand, is adorable

I know a Martha that goes by Maggie, but that could also be due to the fact that there weren't a lot of Marthas born in 1985...

From: [identity profile] wowthatisminty.livejournal.com
Well, Martha's a perfectly lovely name but I was born shortly after 1985 with an equally uncommon name for the 80s, and I didn't want to go by my name at all. I was coming up with all sorts of variants for my own name by the time I was six or seven. I wasn't tremendously close to Maggie but that might have been the situation with her (we only shared a year at college together because she had skipped a year in high school, went abroad my freshman year and graduated my sophomore year).

Margery, Margaret, Margene. I think it's cute, but not good as a given name.

Hate Tammy and can't think of any names it'd be short for.

i don't have any new names to add because i fall kinda in line with lots of others - Maggie short for Margaret and Tammy short for Tamara :)

I like Maggie - I'm not wild about Tammy but i like Tammey as a full name :)
