I actually love that name and don't know why. But I'd be more tempted to call Magnolia "Nolie" or something like that. Hmm. I'll think about this. Thanks. =)
I've never liked the name Maggie. It reminds me of fat cows, and not in a good way. The one Maggie I knew was a sweet girl (on the thin side, too, if that matters), fun-loving and very much a leader, but I don't find the name professional at all. It just grates on my ears. =\
I second Magdalene. I've taken a liking to that name. :)
Tammy - Tabitha (a stretch), Tamara, Thomasina, Tamarind
Betsy/Betty/Bessy and even Elizabeth does that for me. I really love Magdalene and Magdalena; I doubt if I had one I'd even want to call her Maggie. grrr.
Those names(-Tamara) sound very manly to me. Sad. I'm not sure how I feel about Tamara yet and I've had it in my mind for years.
Well...yeah...it is hard to think of middle names for Maggie! I was thinking oh that's simple! Then when I started going through names, they didn't sound right! hmm.. Maggie Sofia? I kind of like that...
It's a nn for Margaret, so you could use it for many variants of that: Magali Mairead Mared Margaid Margareta Margarita Marged Margherita Margit Margot/Margaux Margreet Marguerite Margery Megan Mererid
or also: Magdalene Magdalena Magdalina Madnhild Magnolia Marigold
I used to have a friend who was Marjorie nn Maggie. The first thing to come to my mind, though, was Megan... but I love the name Megan on its own so I wouldn't personally use Maggie as a nickname for it.
I know a few people who are just named Tammy/Tammie, not as a nickname for anything. I know it is a widely used nickname for Tamara. It could work for Thelma.
tammy is ew all around. not to mention insanely dated.
maggie is wonderful. it is our dearly departed cats name, but i love it and if she hadnt been named that (i didnt name her) i would have it on my list.
margaret marguerite magnolia magda
i am torn about it being a full name. i think it should be a nickname.
I LOVE the name Marguerite, but would never use it for a first name because of PEG. I hate Peg/Peggy and if someone ever called Marguerite "Peg" I would die. LOL. I just don't understand how you can get Peg from Margaret or Marguerite...idk. I think those names are too nice to shorten to something like Peg. Maggie on the other hand, is adorable
Well, Martha's a perfectly lovely name but I was born shortly after 1985 with an equally uncommon name for the 80s, and I didn't want to go by my name at all. I was coming up with all sorts of variants for my own name by the time I was six or seven. I wasn't tremendously close to Maggie but that might have been the situation with her (we only shared a year at college together because she had skipped a year in high school, went abroad my freshman year and graduated my sophomore year).

Date: 2010-01-10 03:36 am (UTC)Hm... I definitely like just Maggie. But it still seems a little empty. I can't think of middle names that would go with it either.

Date: 2010-01-10 03:43 am (UTC)Tammy could be short for Tamara, Tamar, Tamsin, Tamora. I don't like it as a standalone, but I don't really like it as a nickname either.
