[identity profile] itcouldbelove.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
One of my mom's best friends had a baby girl today and named her Rachel Brianne. I'm not sure of the spelling yet, but I'm going to assume they didn't go with anything too "strange" or "different." I know there are different ways to spell both of those names, so I'm just guessing. Apparently both names are family names. I think it's a really cute name, though nothing I would never name my future daughter(s). What do you guys think?

Also, I know a guy who is having a baby boy, who may have been born today, as well, actually, because the guy missed class. Anyway, I asked him yesterday what they were naming their son and he said Charles Marion, though I'm not sure about the middle name. Is Marion a boy's name? I always thought of it as a girl's name, but I don't know how you spell it really. Babynames.com says it is a unisex name, but that it originates from Mary and Anna... both female names. I don't really like the name in general. I like Charlie, but more for a girl than a boy. And I don't like Charles and I don't like Charles with Marion with it... Any thoughts?

I think Marion is John Wayne's real name.

Maybe Marian? I know most people will associate it with Maid Marian from Robin Hood, but it can definitely be a male name. See:

http://www.behindthename.com/php/search.php?terms=marian&nmd=n&gender=both&operator=or

And it's just a middle name :)

I've seen Marion for both a boy and a girl, and Marian for a girl.

I think of "Marian" as "having to do with Mary," as in of Nazareth. I think of "Marian holidays," the "Marian calendar," and "Marianists."

Marian is also my half-sister's mother's name, so there's that association.

The most annoying kid in my elementary school class was a boy named Marion. He smelled bad. So there's that association.

My guess is that it's a family name. I don't know if anyone just goes nuts over the name "Marion." At any rate, I don't know how much truth there is to it originating from Anna, but it most definitely has roots in Mary.

re: Rachel Brianne--I could take it or leave it. It isn't horrible by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't like Rachel Brianne, but not because I think they are bad names. I just personally don't like the sound of either one. Rachel is harsh-sounding and I just don't like the sound BR for some reason.

I agree Marion sounds like a likely family name, so that's cool. It kind of makes me think of Maid Marion in Robin Hood. Charles is nice though.

Marion = legitimate boys name, if not my style.

But count me among those who think "Charles Manson." That's how I read it at first.

Rachel Brianne is cute! I like it.

Charles Marion, ewww. Not a fan of Charles. Marion is unisex, but its primarily a girls' name I believe. I hate it for either sex.
