[identity profile] pickleshmickle.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

so i'm having a baby and said baby is due nov. 5th, and we still don't know the sex (but we will here REALLY soon!!) but we have a couple of names picked out and i wanted some input.  here they are:

girl (duh!)

maggie abigail brecht

boy:

owen ______ brecht

owen is my last name and i've always wanted it to be the first name if i have a boy, with maggie abigail brecht, i just came up with the abigail part last night in a dream i had, but i think i really like it, it seems to flow well together, i mean with the g's in the first and middle and the b's in the middle and last but before i share this with my boyfriend i wanted other people's opinions (i'm afraid it sounds silly and is going to be shot down by my boyfriend fast, but i've been saying it out loud all morning and i am really becoming quite attached to it so i don't want to get upset if he does this, so if other people shoot it down first then i won't take it out on him....poor poor brendan.  he gets the brunt of my pregnancy a lot....)  oh and just in case it's not clear, brecht will be it's last name.

I like Maggie, but I don't like nicknames as full names. I'd go with Margaret, so that when she's 40 she's not still called Maggie unless she wants to be.

I have always thought Maggie seems a bit short and uncomplete but it does sound great with Abigail. Yeah I agree Maggie Abigail Brecht has a real pretty ring to it. Yet Maragret Abigail Brecht has it too - just in case you decide to go that route.

What is your boyfriends middle name? Does it sound nice with Owen? I don't think Brendan would work because both ending in the "a/en" sound.

I think Maggie Abigail Brecht sounds lovely!! Although I'm not sure i feel Maggie is enough of a name to be used on its own. I hate Margaret, but love Magnolia (yes a bit ott but it's beautiful! Even Megan with Maggie as a nn?)
I'm not a huge fan of either name to be honest, but i can definetly be neutral & say that those names sound great together.

I love the name Owen, i vote for these three:

Owen Alexander Brecht
Owen Sebastian Brecht
Owen Matthew Brecht

I like the idea of Margaret Abigail. Maggie Abigail sounds like too many similar sounds to me...like I want to say MaggieAbbie gail or Maggibail. ok now it just sounds silly but what I'm trying to say is the sounds blend together to me like a tongue twister. but it could just be my brain that's a bit twisted today. ;p

I def think that Owen needs a 2 syllable mn to balance out your one syl. last name. but I think maybe a name w/an -en/an/in sound is too much w/Owen.

Some suggestions:

Owen Marcus
Owen Lucas
Owen Parker
Owen Carter

gl & congrats on the pregnancy! & don't worry, my husband is still around after dealing w/my preggo hormones. lol

I agree that Maggie should be a nn only. It's not strong enough to work when she's a grown woman, IMO. If you don't like Margaret, you could use Megan or Magdalena.

I agree with the person who said Owen Patrick, that sounds nice :)

I sort of agree that Maggie by itself is a little short. I found a list of "Mag" names that could be easily nn'ed Maggie.

Margot (french)
Marguerite (french)
Marjorie (french)
Macaria (greek)
Madge (greek)
Megara (greek)
Magena (native american/hebrew)
Magenta
Magda (polish)
Magdalia (celtic)

And, this one is a stretch for the nickname Maggie, but Morgandy (also celtic) is cute.

I fully admit that many of these names arent particularly ones on the top of my list, but they could all be shortened to Maggie relatively easily. I especially like Macaria and Magena.

I second Magdalena as an option for a "fuller" name that could use the nickname Maggie, although Magdalena is so beautiful that I'd hate to see it shortened.

Maggie Abigail has very similar sounds, as has been noted. There also doesn't seem to be much "balance," IMO--the names are very similar in feel; i.e. both are well established as currently popular, semi-classic names. "Abby" and "Maggie" seem almost interchangeable to me.

I was going to say "Magdalena"! My friends cousin named her daughter this name to honour a great grandmother, but since day 1 she's only been "Maggie" ... I like "Maggie" as a nickname, but as a full name, no.

All the suggestions I had for "Owen ____" have already been noted, so I won't repeat them. There are TONS of good suggestions up there!

Although Maggie is cute, I think naming her Margaret is a better idea. That way, she can grow into her name. You can call her "Maggie" for short. :) Margaret Abigail sounds great!

Owen is cute. For some reason Owen Ryan really sticks out to me...

Owen Alexander

Owen Elliot

Owen Vincent

Owen Liam

Owen Ross

Owen Wesley

Owen Marcus

Owen Jacob

Owen Gabriel

Good luck! :)

What about Bertolt for a boy? Lol with that last name I couldn't resist. But Maggie and Owen are both nice, and they also look nice together so if you have one sex and then the other that's a nice pair of sibling names I think.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE the name maggie, and i think maggie abigail brecht is perfect.

maggie is fine as a full name, when she gets older she can go by meg if she feels as though maggie is too young sounding, which i dont think it is.

owen is nice, its my brothers and fathers middle name. and i love the meaning behind it for you, with it being your last name. i think owen christopher is nice.

good luck. :)
