It's occured to me that I've known a lot of people who've used nicknames that were an unexpected twist on their names. These are all I can think of off the top of my head:

Aaron > Ron
Christopher > Tophie
Elizabeth > Ebee (pronounced EE-bee)
Roosevelt > Rose
Thomas Edward > Ted
Amanda > Ami (pronounced like Amy)
Malik > Mike
Farid > Fred
Frederick > Rick
Joshua > Jos (pronounced like Joss)
Jeremiah > Miah (pronounced MYE-uh)
Nathaniel > Than (pronounced with a soft "th")

Any of you encounter unexpected nicknames?

My mom's name is Janis and her friends call her Nis
A girl I know is Lauren but her aunt calls her La (as the musical note).
Also, said aunt is named Geraldine but goes by Gigi.
I've also heard of emo girls named Jessica going by Sicka. Yuck.

I went to school with a Jennifer who didn't want to be "Jennifer _" so she always went by Gigi.
