Ok, so what do you guys think about these names?

Delaney

MacKenzie

I'm stuck on girl's names. I can't think of any good boy names - I want something that's not incredibly common, but not something REALLY out-there either. Help????

[identity profile] scarletladyy.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ridiculous. I'm surprised they're even names.

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
They aren't my style. MacKenzie is too popular and Delaney is more of a boy name to me.

[identity profile] penguiny7.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
For boys or girls? Delaney on a girl is a GP of mine, but I think it sounds more masculine. I LOVE Mackenzie (don't like the capital K in the middle) on a boy, but can't stand it on a girl. It's very trendy and doesn't even make sense to be a girl's name.

Delany is pretty, but its the name of a car dealership in the town where i live.

Hate MacKenzie...no matter how it's spelled.

Delaney is an odd name, but I have a friend with a little girl named Delanie and she's adorable so the name is cute; and the spelling is MUCH better without the 'y'

[identity profile] sweetest-asylum.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Laney is a much cuter name.

[identity profile] harinakshi.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks too close to a last name. It'd make a better nickname than a whole name.

[identity profile] sweetest-asylum.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Lana? Lane?
Dana isn't used very much. I know 2 men named Dana.

[identity profile] harinakshi.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
My old vet was named Dana Surge, but we just called him Dr. Dana. I've seen Lane as both a first name (man) and as a last name. Which is why I couldn't see Laney as a girl's first name.

[identity profile] quitmyscene.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
This comment is odd to me because I've never met anyone with the last name Laney, but have met ~5 people (well, different families) with the last name Delaney ... which is why I'll never see it as more than a last name.

[identity profile] rorylareina.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Delaney, I think MacKenzie's too popular (and I'm not really a fan).

Not horrible, but not my style personally.

[identity profile] perchedoutside.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Delaney on a girl. I don't like Mackenzie at all.

[identity profile] rowan-belle.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Both are too trendy for my taste.

[identity profile] mycrazy-journal.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
They are both last names. As first names, I've only seen them on girls.

IAWTC.

I'm not a fan of MacKenzie. It's my niece's name, and she's usually called Kenzie, which I like better, but I still can't get that into it.

Delaney is a very interesting name to me, because it's not even remotely my usually style, but I love it!

[identity profile] therachel.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate to also barf on the names,
but they're gross, sorry!

[identity profile] killer-inme.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Delaney dones't even sound like a name to me
sorry.. don't like either

[identity profile] politicking.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it spelled Mackenzie or Mackensie. Not a fan of Delaney.

[identity profile] th3-unicorn.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Delaney (DELL-ah-nee) and Mackenzie without the extra capitalization :)
They're not names that would be my typical style, but I they're pretty!

[identity profile] velkoria.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Not my style but I kind of like the sound of Delaney pronounced DELL-uh-knee and ugh HATE Mackenzie and ALL it's horrible incarnations.

[identity profile] mommyaubrey.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
i LOVE Delaney its my friends daughters name, and i baby-sit her a lot so maybe i'm biased. we call her Laney a lot or Laney Rae, or Dee Dee. theres a lot of nick names for it!
and MacKenzie is getting far far far too popular, but its still cute.

[identity profile] sarahness.livejournal.com 2009-11-20 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Of the two, I prefer Delaney. To be quite honest, though, I don't like either.

If you're looking for something not common, Mackenzie (in any form) is out. Personally, I think it sounds like a last name.

They're very trendy. I do like Mackenzie spelled like that, but I'm afraid it won't age well (and the same goes for Delaney).

Have you tried Nymbler (http://www.nymbler.com/)? You might get some good ideas there!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/___heyvanity/ 2009-11-21 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I hate MacKenzie with a passion and I don't like Delaney.

[identity profile] kimberpotamus.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
To me MacKenzie is a surname and Mackenzie is a first name.

[identity profile] starskye.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I do not like Mackenzie. Delaney is alright

[identity profile] soundofbusiness.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like MacKenzie that much. I can't stand Delaney at all.

[identity profile] frost.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Mackenzie (HATE the extra capital) when I was a child, but I'm not a big fan now. Apparently, it's popular now, too? =/

I don't like Delaney. It seems like a last name. Also, I have no idea what sex this name usually associated with, but I always picture a boy.

[identity profile] wolfbane.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like Mackenzie, but I like Delaney because of the nickname Lane/Laine. I would just use the name Laine over that though.

[identity profile] cremepuff.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Delaney is a guilty pleasure for me...I'm mostly a "traditionalist" when it comes to names, but yet I've always liked Delaney.

Whereas MacKenzie and any of its variant spellings have always bothered me. I know it's been repeated so many times on this community so I do apologize for the rehash, but "mac" means "son of." So when someone names their daughter that, it essentially means "son of Kenneth." I understand that meanings and gender usage for names change over time, but I still can't get past that.

Besides, I spent the early years of my childhood in the 80's--all I can think of is Spuds MacKenzie!

[identity profile] satunian.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
OMG... Spuds Mackenzie... where is that from??

[identity profile] hwar.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly this.

[identity profile] satunian.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Delaney is what those little cards are called that you have to fill out for every class on the first day of school with your name, address and crap on a 1X2" piece of oaktaglike paper so the teacher can take attendance. I hate those cards. So I'm not too keen on the name.

I severely dislike Mackenzie, and I agree with most of the above comments. Trendy and gross :\

[identity profile] requiem-morrow.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
You know, as long as its spelled correctly, I really don't have a problem with MacKenzie other than that it has been building in populariity for the last twenty years.

Now, Delaney I like. Problem is that its my nephew's middle name (family tradition on his dad's side) so I'll never be able to use it or anything. I think it works well on boys or girls...but as a first name I think it works better on girls (the boys in my family are Logan Delaney and John Delaney nn Lane, btw).

[identity profile] thejoysofjess.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
MacKenzie will always be a surname to me, as it is my grandma's maiden name. It's also fairly popular, so it doesn't fit your criteria.

I like Delaney. It's a guilty pleasure.

[identity profile] bettybites.livejournal.com 2009-11-21 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Delaney is cute.

MacKenzie is my last name (well McKenzie) and it's always annoyed me to use it as a first name.

[identity profile] heavenisnearyou.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ok this is so weird but I know a girl whose 2 daughters are named McKenzie and Delaney...
