A friend just directed me to this community and I have a gem to share. I worked at a boarding school for a while, and I encountered some crazy names, but there was one that is just.. What.

This little girl, who would now be in the ninth or tenth grade, was named Precious-Princess Diamond. Her mother was Cinderella Magic. My mother worked at the school too and told me about the mother when I mentioned my incredulity over PPD. And both mom and daughter insist on going by their "proper" names.

Not only she has a self-entitlement-complex-inducing name, her initials spell Post Partum Depression!! Just glorious, should I shay..

(I know, I know.. I always say that initials shouldn't matter so much.. but when a name is THAT bad, then it begins to matter! lol)

It's like Pretty Pretty Princess. Mom obviously didn't realize that children are not dolls. And my guess is grandma was quite poor and was hoping her own princess would find a prince charming. Guess not.

And poor PPD. None of her names are that great. "Call me PP....wait...no!" I'd go by Di, myself.

Cinderella Magic and Precious-Princess are actually kind of rad in their over-the-topness. I like Cinderella Magic better of the two. I guess it's great that they really like their names, rather than the wacko names being applied to someone less frou frou who doesn't appreciate their, um, femininity?

If I had been given the chance to name a baby when I was 4 years old, I probably would have called her Cinderella Magic. Maybe her parents let her siblings name her?

There is just no excuse for Precious-Princess Diamond. I wouldn't even give that name to a doll.

Heh, I had a Cinderella doll when I was young, and when I played with my Barbies I made her be one of Barbie's kids. Even at that age I knew that Cinderella was an over-the-top name, so I renamed her Cindie for my purposes :D

I think it's a good thing that they're confident in their names. Short of changing them, you want them to just feel humiliation their whole lives? I always find it much more depressing when people hate their own names, whether that name be Precious-Princess Diamond or Bob.
