[identity profile] mommamayer317.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So, I am not pregnant, or TTC, but I love baby names.  When I was pregnant with my son, Dylan, we were also coming up with girls names... which we did not agree on any.  If Dylan was a girl, I wanted to name her Skyelar... and even today, if we ever do have a girl, thats what I want to name her.  I used to like Skyelar Makenzie, but he hates Makenzie... so thats out.  I don't really care about the middle name that much, but I definatly want Skyelar for a first.  Anyone have any ideas on a middle name for it?
And what does everyone think about the name Lorelai Olivia... that was his idea for a girl... I like Lorelai, just not too sure about Olivia... Thanks!

I would say the preferred spelling would be Skylar and Mackenzie.

Skylar Olivia would be beautiful.

I like Lorelai (and am debating using it in the future but the more I see it pop up the less I want to), but I really don't like Olivia

i really dislike the name schuyler/skylar, and even moreso your incorrect spelling of it. on the flip side, i absolutely love the name dylan! i dont like mackenzie or lorelai either. i do like olivia however, but its too popular to use, imo.

I do not like the spelling Skyelar at all. It falls into the adding unnecessary letters category for me as well. I'm ok with Skye as a name, but Skyelar just looks awkward. I DO like the name, however. I like Skylar Makenzie (Mackenzie, Makenzi, MaKenzie, MacKenzie.. however you want to spell it) a lot. Very cute. And Dylan is a great name too.

I think the E makes it harsher and less feminine. Most words drop the e at the end when you add something to it. Like wade becomes wading and fade becomes fading. The added E makes it look like it ought to have an extra syllable.

Skyelar comes across to me as a very girly name, so I'd pair it with other girly names:

Skyelar Kiley
Skyelar Adele
Skyelar Anna
Skyelar Lily
Skyelar Eleanor
Skyelar Jane

Lorelai Olivia has too many of the same sounds for my taste.

I don't like Skyelar. But I would spell it as Skylar because the 'e' looks random to me. Lorelai and Olivia are nice, but not together. They get far too jumbled together and seem to come out as Lorelayalivia.

What about a compromise of Skylar Lorelai?
I also love Skylar, what about:

Skylar Eve
Skylar Hazel
Skylar Esme
Skylar Faye
Skylar Kate
Skylar Jasmine
Skylar Zoe
Skylar Adrienne
Skylar Amelie
Skylar Autumn
Skylar Claire
Skylar Ellis
Skylar Hailey
Skylar Ivy
Skylar Mathilde
Skylar Natalie
Skylar Phoebe
Skylar Gwen
Skylar Quinn
Skylar Violet

I also know that a member of this community has a daughter called
Skylar Nicole.

Oh and I love the name Dylan! It also has such a lovely meaning. What is your son's middle name?

I think that Lorelei Olivia is a Beautiful name. But you could compromise and use Lorelei and Olivia as first names and pair them with Sklar and Mackenzie

Lorelei Christine
Lorelei Grace
Lorelei Paige
Lorelei Ann

Skyler Olivia sounds pretty too

I like Skylar (but not when you spell it Skyelar.. yikes!), but it's VERY young-sounding to me. I can't see it aging well at all. Also, if you go with Skylar, I'd recommend choosing a more classic middle name. Skyelar Makenzie is just way too trendy and cutesy. Sure, it's cute on a 3 year old, but what about when she grows up? Can you honestly picture a grown woman named Skyelar Makenzie?

Skylar Jane is nice, as is Skylar Olivia.

I don't like Lorelai and Olivia together... it's like there's too many similar sounds or something.

just a question though, why did everyone adopt Lorelai as the spelling these days? as far as i know, Lorelei is the original English translation... =\ (i'm very touchy on the name since it's mine, lmao don't mind me)

Just to agree with most people who have already posted - the Skyelar spelling looks ridiculous and ugly. If you like Skye, use Skye.

I can't get over the German associations with Lorelei, but Olivia is nice.

Lorelei Olivia is pretty.
I'm partial to first & middle names sounding the same, so i think they really flow.
I despise Mackenzie. It's ugly, masculine, trendy & harsh sounding.. the epitome of awfulness!

Lorelei Olivia is a great name, not a fan of the Lorelai spelling. I hate the Skyelar spelling as well, but I like the sound of the name.

Skylar or Skyler are very nice. Skyelar is not. It's very awkward and just plain wrong looking.

I prefer Sky be spelled without E also, not that I think that really has anything to do with why Skyelar looks incorrect.

Olivia and Lorelei are ok, thought I hate the show Gilmore Girls, so Lorelei bugs me because of that. I thought it was a nice name before that show came out though, so hopefully I will again one day. Loralai, again, looks like someone who didn't know how to spell filled out the birth certificate.

I'd probably look for something a little more traditional as the mn, just to keep the very trendy first name grounded a bit.
