[identity profile] patheticinvader.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
After my last post, I thought about how people mispronounce obvious names, and such.

What does everyone think of the name Cullen ("Kull-en")? It's my 6 year old cousin's name, and some aunts and uncles in the family, and family "friends", to this day, call him "Colin" (pronounced Cole-in) and "Collin" (Call-in). They even write his name like that!

Now, in the case of my family, the fact that Cullen's name is mis spelled and mispronounced is due to the laziness and disregard my family has towards actually learning the name.

But, as someone posted in a comment to me, their daughter's name is Rylee and people mispronounce that name, too.

What are some other names that people butcher, such as Cullen and Rylee?

Agreed.

I have a friend named Leigh, and it's my sister's middle name... and it's just always been "lee." Duh. People are just stupid by not learning "normal, classic" names.

ditto agreed. Leigh is my mn too, and I want to tell people who say it "lay" that Le IGH is the common female spelling and "Lee" is usually male. (not that male or female names stay as such anymore...lol) but yeah.

and it's not like it's a new or made up name... it's been around forever, you'd think people would have seen/heard it a few (thousand) times. ;p
