Ever have a name just stick to you that's completely not your style, but you just LOVE it? Despite the classic choices on my lists for boys (Walter, Charles) and girls (Helena, Grace, Kate), there are names I absolutely love that couldn't be farther away from my style. Dated, trendy, even unisex! But I still love them, despite myself. Alas! =D

GIRLS
Bailey - I admit to loving this for a girl despite my general hatred of boys names for girls. I like it as a boys name too, I just think it has such a nice sound to it, and I find it to have a sort of a tomboyish quality rather than being super masculine.
Gray - This is probably my worst, because I seriously love it enough to use it, though I'd never let myself. (Maybe as a middle name. Doesn't Helena Gray sound pretty? =p) I love this name just as much for a boy.
Sally - a direct result of my love of Peanuts, I've always loved the name Sally. I think it's sweet and strong, and although most people think of it as dated, I just think it's pretty.
Linney - I was lamenting to a friend that the name Laura, which I think is very pretty, doesn't work very well in Hebrew at all (Lo Ra means 'not bad'), and she humorously suggested that I just name the kid Linney instead. Now I'm obsessed; hopefully it'll pass soon.
Kayla - not such a sin, I don't think, except that it really is SO popular. I like it best as a nickname for Michaela, though--no unique spellings.

BOYS
Lander - a person I'd very much like to honour by naming a child after him is named Yehoshua Englander. I don't like Yehoshua, or the English version, Joshua, but I have this weird obsession with surnames as given names for boys, and Englander sounded nice. It took about two days for me to fall in love with the nickname, Lander. This is also a name I like well enough to use.
Archer - people become absolutely furious with me when I mention this name, for some reason, but I absolutely LOVE it. I think it has such a strong sound to it, but most people imply that the kid will get pummeled at preschool.
Keaton
Anderson
Merritt
Wilder
--the direct result of my passion for surnames mentioned above. I know.

Haha. It feels good to get it off my chest. =D

I'm in love with the names Orion and Brennan for boys, but I'd never use them because there's not my style at all. All of my girls' names tend to be pretty similar, though.

I really like Archer and Lander for boys as well as Merritt and Wilder. I'm a huge fan of surnames for boys, too, my favorites being Walker and Wallace (both Wally for short).

Bailey to me is a girl's name. Simply because the only Bailey I've ever known was a girl. Bailey for a boy sounds really feminine to me. *shrugs*

I love the name Gray for a boy (Grayson) but it works really well as a middle name for a girl, I think. Not as a first name, though.

My aunt is named Sally, therefore I like it--but I wouldn't name my child that. Maybe a cat. Haha.

Linney is SO cute! It's kind of like saying Lynn-y or something. I like it.

Kayla is my cousin's name, but I'm not a huge fan of it. I wouldn't name my kid that. That being said, my middle name is Kay... sooo yeah.

Lander is cute, but I like Landon better. That's my brother and dad's middle name. And the name of my great-great grandpa.

Archer is cute. I wouldn't use it, but it's cute. It reminds me of Hunter, though...

Keaton isn't half bad. I like Anderson and Wilder, but wouldn't name my kids that, either. Merritt is.. I can't decide if I like it for a boy or for a girl.

I really like some extravagant names like Isolde (ee-SULD) and Iolanthe (pronounced like Ee-oh-lan-ta or 'Yolanda'). But I'd never dream of naming my children that.

Others are Blythe and Felicity, possibly Bliss. How cute would twins be named Blythe and Bliss?

I like Mary Jane, despite the drug connotations, and Sheena, from the Ramones song Sheena is a Punk Rocker.

i always loved the name Levi for a little girl. like you stated with bailey, to me it had more of the tomboyish feel, then strictly masculine. atlast though, my mom hated it:-/ so i changed it back to giving it to one of my son's....atleast for now, i may change my mind again before the time comes to use it:-D

I really really love the names Mahalia and Kerensa. but my boyfriend has a very long last name, so it would really be too much. Plus my latest thing is that I need a name that is easy to understand over the phone.

I've fallen in love with the name Cailin because of the Unwritten Law song by the same name. I've never been one for trendy names, but I really like this one.

I know exactly what you mean.
I've never liked anybodys name I knew that was a place name. Yet now.. that's all that I really seem to like a lot. Holland. California. Ireland. Even Minnesota. It's weird.
I like surrnames as first and middle names too. Especially Anderson.
And I think I'm still staying away from most unisex names-- except Charlee.. I love the name Charlee(pronounced exactly like guys named Charlie) ..
hm, so yeah.

I know (at least) 3 Bailey's but one of them (and I desperately want to smack her mom for it) is spelled Baili which I personally just think looks weird on paper, especially hand-written (go ahead, write it down, you'll see what I mean, lol). despite that, I was considering it for a minute on my dd, but our last name starts w/a 'B' so I thought it was too much...

but yeah, anyway, I am so about the 'guilty' pleasure naming thing, (mine are mostly that I do kinda like some trendy/over popular names, or 'out there' names

Names I Like But Would Not Actually Use:

for girls I like:

Calleigh
Kylie
Peyton
Olivia
Kinsey
Tori
Ainsley
Rumer (I know, Demi's kid)
Eithne
Saoirse
Liesel
Kennedy

(I'm sure there are others I can't think of right now...)

boys:

Kyle
Ronin
Stellan
Dougray
Noah (I really love this I just think it's so popular right now.:(
Evan
Lysander
Leander
Kiefer
Faolan

We're dead set on naming our first son Bradey. Despite the popularity/Brady bunch association. Neither of us like popular names or 'unique' spellings, but we both love it. And dislike the spelling Brady, for some reason or another... I don't really remember why anymore. Our other names are all uncommon.

Girl guilty pleasure name: Averie

Kayla is my little sister's name...my mom loved the name Michaela, but didn't want the nickname Mike and liked the nickname Kayla so just went with it...she'd never heard of it. Now, my sister has another Kayla on her dance team and another in a couple of her classes, and the first time that my mom took her out when she was a week old she heard another woman with a newborn baby comforting her daughter...Kayla.
