ok so i LOVE the nickname emmy, but the only full names i really know of are emma, emily and emerson.

i love emma, but i dont know, i would call her emma. calling her emmy seems like it would be strange and unnecessary.

not much of a fan of emily, to be honest. its ok, but its also my best friends daughters name, so its out.

i absolutely adore emerson, but everyone says its a boys name, which doesnt really bother me much because i love the tomboy thing... (francesca and josephine are two of our other favorites) but the problem is that the husband doesnt like emerson. so that pretty much rules it out.

last night i saw something about emmy rossum on entertainment tonight (i had never heard of her before but they said she is a star of some kind) and they showed some divorce papers, i think, that said emmanuelle. well i hate that too.

so, babynamers, what else is a good full name that emmy could be a nickname for?

Emmy Rossum was in Phantom of the Opera :)
One of my friends online had a girl named Ember. Emmy would work for that!

Emilie ends in "ie," while Emily ends in "y."

No, I'm just kidding. They both end with "x."

Ask an obvious question...

I mean, it's an alternate spelling, but I didn't think I seriously had to point that out.

Yes, I did see that - hence why I tried to help by giving you some names that you hadn't already mentioned.

Emilie and Emily are different names, and you said you didn't like the name "Emily," not any names similar to it. Personally, I like the former and not the latter, just as I like Catherine but not Kathryn, Hannah but not Hana, Lia but not Leah, etc. If you'd asked about pronunciation, I would have told you.

Also, I never called you stupid, I don't think you're stupid, and I think you are taking a flippant response a little too personally <3

emmaline seems unnecessary to me. the E indicates the emma-leen sound with out needing the A

I have the same issue! Love the nickname emmy, don't like any of the names that would give me that nickname. We're thinking, if we ever have a girl, to just have her initials be E.M. or M.E. but that seems kind of forced to me. *shrug*
Hope you can figure something out!

this.

I think it is fine as a full name.

I've also heard it as a nickname for Emmit/Emmitt - but that is also masculine.

You could also use Emmy for name with an "em" in them -- Jemima, Gemma, Clementine, Rosemary.

i don't really think Emerson can be compared to Francesca or Josephine as while they are based on boys' names, they have been feminized and are therefore girls' names. I think it'd be more like naming your daughter Francesco or Joseph. I agree, Emerson is a boys' name. The "son" part doesn't help, true it can be argued that Madison is basically a girls' name but it's more of a place name imo and also one I do not particularly care for anyway...

I agree with you that calling an Emma "Emmy" feels unnecessary though, and I also agree with you on not being crazy about Emily! (yawn! ;P)

The only name I could think of to suggest is Emmaline/Emmeline/Emmelyn (I like the first one best but you choose your favorite spelling) which ironically is the only "Em" name I actually like. That or Emilia. My only other suggestion would be to look for names that don't necessarily begin with "Em" but maybe end with the sound or contain it in the middle - I can't really think of any though :\

I was also going to suggest Emilia, Gemma, and Emmeline. I like the idea of using E.M. initals, too, and nicknaming her Emmy.

Other suggestions:
Emina
Amelia
Milena
Rosemary
Madeleine
Maeve
Imogene
Emelina
Emery

Also, if you like Francesca and Josephine, do you like Elizabeth? I think Emmy could work as a nickname for that as well.

Another thought is to go with a name with the initials M.E. and the nickname Emmy as a play off that. I have a friend named Mary Elizabeth who goes by Emmy (M.E.)
